Recently, it can be seen on the ground that in Chandanagar area of Ward No. 3 of Lalanagar Union of the upazila, mountains have been cut in the dark of night. The hill, about 20 feet high, has been cut down and turned into flat land. Various fruit trees on the hill have been destroyed. After cutting the soil for a week with excavators, the forest department people went and stopped the mountain cutting maha yajna after getting the news. But before that, the gang removed the mountain cutting equipment. Locals complain that the soil has been cut from the hill and used to fill the surrounding crop fields.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In this regard, local resident Chittagong District Lawyers Association member and government law officer Advocate Imran Hossain Chowdhury said that in that area, apart from ancestrally owned hills, there were government Khas hills owned by the forest department. Where they created orange and mango orchards. But recently the hill-cutting syndicate cut the hill about 20 feet high from the slope. Until the forest department stopped them, they cut down one and a half of the mountain, which was two kanis in size, and turned it into plain land.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In this regard, Sajjad Hossain, Ichamati Range Officer of the Forest Department, said the place of Lalanagar is hilly dune class. Which is part of Khas Khatian number 1 of DC. In 1935, it was given to the Forest Department by virtue of the Gazette Notification. Where social forestry was done in 2003, the trees could not be cut when a local brought a permanent ban. Recently, when the forest department personnel went to the spot on the news of cutting down the hill, some local women harassed three forest department personnel. However, mountain cutting is stopped. The Department of Environment and the Upazila Nirbahi Officer have been informed in this regard. I hope legal action can be taken soon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is known that there are several hill-cutting syndicates active in various hilly areas, including Mohammadpur, Sonagaon, Kodala, and Islampur in South Rajanagar of the upazila. These gangs are causing serious damage to the environment by cutting mountains and filling the cropland. In the interest of the public, the conscious people demand to identify these Paharkhekods and take legal action against them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In this regard, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mahmudul Hasan said that the administration always adopts a zero-tolerance policy against those involved in mountain cutting. As soon as there is news, legal action is taken there.
