Senior District and Sessions Judge of Sunamganj. Hemayet Uddin was granted bail after a hearing on Wednesday (October 9) afternoon. Senior lawyer Abdul Hamid, who participated in the court hearing on his behalf, confirmed the matter.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Earlier, during the bail hearing of MA Mannan in the same court at around 11 am, there was a ruckus between the two sides of the lawyers. At one point, the judge stepped down from the bench. Later in the afternoon, the bail hearing started again. At the end of the hearing, the judge granted his bail at around 2:30 pm.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The police arrested MA Mannan from his home in Shantiganj upazila on the night of September 19. He fell ill in Sunamganj District Jail on Saturday. He was first taken to District Headquarters Hospital and later to Sylhet Central Prison Hospital. From there, he was transferred to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Students blocked the Sunamganj-Sylhet regional highway in Shantiganj, protesting the arrest of MA Mannan and demanding his release. However, the leaders and workers of BNP and allied organizations have protested several times in Shantiganj and Sunamganj to demand his punishment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the anti-discrimination student movement in Sunamganj town on August 4, the protestors were attacked. Hafiz Ahmad, the brother of the injured student Zahoor Ahmad, filed a case under the Speedy Trial Act at the Sadar Model Police Station on September 2 as the plaintiff. 99 people, including MA Mannan, were accused in this case.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">MA Mannan joined Awami League politics after finishing his service as joint secretary. From Sunamganj-3 Constituency, he was elected Member of Parliament for four consecutive times since 2008. After the 2014 elections, he was the Minister of State for Finance and Planning in the Awami League government.
