Today is the 23rd anniversary of that attack. The twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington were hit in the 2001 Al-Qaeda attack involving four hijacked airliners. Another plane crashed before impact. About 3 thousand people were killed in this terrible attack.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This event changed the whole world. It has far-reaching effects on many subsequent world events, security situations, and the lives of ordinary people worldwide. Immediately after 9\/11, the United States invaded Afghanistan under Taliban rule, sheltering al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, and the Taliban were ousted. Twenty years later, the US declared an end to its war in Afghanistan, and the Taliban returned to power.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Relatives of the victims recited the names of their loved ones one by one at the New York City Memorial at a memorial service held this morning to mark the day. At this time, many will be seen standing silently and crying. President Joe Biden will reportedly attend the event. The program will start in the morning local time. A total of six moments of silence are observed. At exactly the same time 23 years ago, when the two towers were hit by a hijacked plane, when the towers collapsed, there were also moments when the Pentagon was hit and a fourth plane crashed. The first silence will be observed at 8:46 a.m., the exact time the first attack on the North Tower took place.
