After the lifting of the ban on fishing in Kaptai Lake yesterday (September 1), the ghat returned to life with the presence of fish traders, employees, and fishermen. Fishermen are very happy to get back to work after a long period of unemployment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fishing in Kaptai Lake is closed for three months every year for the purpose of natural reproduction and propagation of carp. This year, after being closed for three months from April 24 to July 24, the period of ban was extended two times due to a lack of sufficient water in the lake, due to which the fish did not propagate properly. After a total of 127 days, fishing in the lake started on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fishermen said that although big fish were less caught in the lake, there was an abundance of small fish, including kachki and chapila. BFDC and fishmongers say that due to the water in the lake, the catch of big fish is less. Big fish will be more available when the water is low.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation Rangamati Marketing Center Manager Commander Ashraful Islam Bhuiyan said that fishermen have started fishing in Kaptai Lake after the ban was lifted. Smaller fish are caught more. When the water recedes, big fish will be caught. This year more fish will be available as there is water in the lake.
