The Crime Desk:<\/strong> The banned militant organization Ansar al-Islam is going ahead with preparations for public ‘dawati’ work. The organization has already strengthened its activities in various areas of the country, including Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar. The organization is trying to come into the open in Bangladesh after the activities that the Taliban have started since the departure of US troops from Afghanistan.<\/p>\n

Commander Arafat Islam, director of RAB’s law and media wing, said that the activities of Ansar al-Islam have almost come to a standstill due to regular operations by law enforcement forces. He said they are deliberately targeting madrasa students and inspiring them with militant ideology. As a strategy, they have created a new militant organization called ‘Shahadat’ under the cover of Ansar Al Islam and have been conducting activities. Currently, Ansar Al Islam has increased its activities in the border areas of the country. Primarily, the cut-out system is increasing members in border areas. In this way, by increasing the number of members, public invitation work is being prepared.<\/p>\n

In 2017, the militant organization Ansar Al Islam was declared banned in Bangladesh. In this regard, seven organizations were banned, considering militant activities and radical Islamic organizations in the country. After the banning of the Ansarullah Bangla Team, a militant organization that attacks bloggers, writers, publishers, and people of different ideologies in Bangladesh in 2015, members of the group are believed to be operating under the name of Ansar Al Islam. Such organizations conduct activities in a confidential manner, establish various contacts, and recruit new staff. Members are also trained in secret. The workers then take over military duties, communicate, finance, and shelter the workers. The whole work is done in secret.<\/p>\n

Some law enforcement officials involved in monitoring the activities of militant organizations said that at least 25 leaders of like-minded Islamic groups are under the surveillance of law enforcement agencies. These leaders are working for Ansar al-Islam. They are members of the militant group’s policy-making board, the Sharia or Fatwa Board. After the terrorist attack on the Holy Artisan restaurant in Gulshan, the militant organizations were cornered in various operations. Among these banned militant organizations, Ansar al-Islam is more strategic and organized.<\/p>\n

Commander Arafat Islam, director of RAB’s law and media wing, said that Ansar al-Islam’s recruitment of new members and other activities are being hampered. Therefore, to keep the activities going, Ansar al-Islam ideologue created a new militant group called ‘As-Shahadat’ and started recruiting new members and conducting dawa activities. This group operates from a neighboring country. The membership of this organization is approximately 85\u2013100 people. The founders of this group are Habibullah, a citizen of a neighboring country, and the alleged Amir Salahuddin.<\/p>\n

On the night of June 27, the intelligence wing of the RAB headquarters and the joint team of RAB-15 and RAB-7 raided the Choufaldandi area of Kongbazar and arrested three members of Ansar Al Islam. At this time, 10 extremist books, 29 leaflets, and explosives-making equipment were recovered from them. Earlier on May 23, two members of this group were arrested from the Shikalbaha area of Chittagong’s Karnaphuli police station in a joint operation by RAB headquarters’ intelligence wing and RAB-7.<\/p>\n

Commander Arafat Islam said that many of their leading members have been arrested in various operations by law enforcement forces in recent times. So they are recruiting new people to revive this organization. Young adults can easily be brainwashed by misrepresentation.
