Matiur Rahman is the king of corruption in the customs department! The father of Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat, a 19-year-old boy who went viral after buying a goat worth Tk 15 lakh from the much-discussed ‘Sadiq Agro Farm’ in the capital’s Mohammadpur, Dr. Many cases of abuse of power are coming out one after another of Matiur Rahman’s corruption, irregularities, and smuggling of crores of rupees abroad. In this incident, several intelligence agency officials said that Matiur Rahman had smuggled billions abroad while serving in various positions at NBR for a long time. He is also involved in women’s scandals. He did not obey the instructions of any NBR official. Former NBR Chairman Badiur Rahman in his autobiography. Mentioned various corruption and abuse of power issues regarding Matiur Rahman. Matiur Rahman has earned crores of rupees during the tenure of the BNP and the current government. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a complaint against Matiur Rahman for acquiring huge amounts of illegal wealth. After verifying the complaint submitted in the first week of this month, the commission decided to investigate. ACC officials have already reached the ground.

In 1994, as a trade cadre (11th batch), Matiur Rahman and seven people joined the Ministry of Commerce together. At the same time, 19 cadres joined the Customs cadre. Those seven people are external cadres. As these seven were not of the Customs cadre, several attempts were made to remove them. But it was not possible. Before that, the then-NBR chairman. Sa’adat Hussain tried to send them back. But it was not possible. But in the meantime, Matiur brought the Supreme Court order for assimilation, but as a junior. By that time, Matiur Rahman had become very prosperous. It was connected with Hawa Bhavan during the four-party coalition government. This was his main source of power at that time. Some ministers would greet him on the contrary.

According to an official of Hawa Bhavan, he developed a friendship with then Finance Minister Saifur Rahman. Motiur started business with the finance minister’s sons. Matiur used to enter the finance minister’s room without any hindrance. Later, Motiur worked alone during the Awami League government. Motiur did not care about the chairman of NBR because he was close to the two finance ministers of the Awami League and BNP governments. The current stock market is controlled by maturity. Matiur is the mastermind of the stock market scam. Matiur used to work in bonds. I worked on contracts with big businessmen. Being the President of the Customs Excise VAT Appellate Tribunal, he used to settle many cases for huge sums of money. Motiur is also involved in gold smuggling from the airport. Served at Dhaka Airport, Jessore Airport, Benapal Land Port, and Chittagong Airport. In this way, he earned thousands of crores of rupees and smuggled them abroad. He used to give shares to some party leaders.

Badiur Rahman was the chairman of NBR at the time of One Eleven. He transferred bribe-taking Matiur Rahman to Rajshahi. At that time, four members of NBR requested the chairman not to transfer Matiur. Then the four members said, Sir, he will not be transferred. He will replace you. Then Badiur Rahman said, I am transferring. Then the four members said, He is a man of some ministers, a man of Hawa Bhaban. Shares everyone. He has no shortage of money. The water in the river will dry up, but Motiur’s money will not end, sir. Still, Badiur Rahman upheld his transfer order.

Then one after the other from the top level started to come. Senior officials of other organizations also tried to stall his transfer. Two powerful secretaries also worked to prevent the transfer. Those who had benefited financially from him in the past. In the end, even the head of the caretaker government, Fakhruddin Ahmed, recommended. Badiur Rahman suspended his transfer order as per the recommendation of the head of government. Known as an honest and loyal officer, Badiur Rahman voluntarily left the service after 15 months. NBR officials said that he did not compromise on his ideals. Badiur Rahman mentions all these things in his autobiography. During the conversation yesterday, former NBR chairman Badiur Rahman said that Matiur Rahman is a known corrupt person. Those who were in charge of the Anti-Corruption Commission at the age of 11 also tried to prevent Motiur’s transfer. But I was firm in my decision. Except Badiur Rahman, no chairman of NBR could have reached him. After the death of then Finance Minister Saifur Rahman’s wife, Matiur Rahman cried even when he went to the grave. That is, he is good at this kind of acting. Then came the Awami League government. Then he became APS, a powerful leader of the Awami League. As a result, his illegal income continued. NBR officials said Matiur was a disgrace to NBR. I have never seen such bribery as the pond theft. All governments have paid this bribe. In return, he received crores of rupees. If there is a crime, the department will take action; it is normal. But if the department fails to take action, all those institutions, including NBR, will be in a state of disrepair. Besides, no one obeys any rules or regulations. Currently, this situation has arisen in some institutions. The present chairman of NBR is honest and devoted. Matiur could not subdue the current chairman. However, despite not being able to subdue, due to the current two powerful secretaries, the chairman is unable to take effective action against Motiur.

Apart from Matiur Rahman’s Narsingdi and Mymensingh’s Trishal, Gazipur’s Pubail has abundant wealth, including resorts, shooting spots, bungalow houses, and land. He also has huge wealth in Barisal. Motiur’s first wife, Laila Kanijke, became upazila chairman due to financial power. The second wife is a bank officer. They also have a mountain of wealth in their name. It has been revealed that the viral young man who bought the sacrificial animal is the child of Matiur’s second wife. The banker transacted the money of this woman. He has houses not only in the country but also abroad. His son has a car collection from world-famous brands. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has already started to inquire into these matters. In the name of his two children, Arnav and Ipsita, there are documents of partnership in about a dozen companies in Punjibazar and beyond. The analysis of these documents showed that his two children, Arnab and Ipsita, own Global Su and Global Max Packaging Company in Gazipur. And Matiur Rahman strategically took placement shares in the name of these two companies in several companies listed in the capital market. And Global Max is owned by the capital market-listed company SK Trims Industries. He also owns a brokerage firm, Shahjalal Equity. In addition to the equity management company, there are also 27 lakh, 45 thousand, and 500 shares in another company called Associate Oxygen.

Matiur Rahman lives in the Bashundhara residential area. Most of the companies owned by his family have their headquarters in the area. Apart from this, there is a company named Arnab Trading, named after Matiur Rahman’s son Arnab. A photo of his daughter using a luxury car called a Lamborghini has also gone viral on social media. The price of which is about 4 lakh Canadian dollars or about 4 crores in Bangladeshi currency. Not only in the capital Dhaka or Gazipur, Matiur Rahman also bought a lot of property in his in-laws Narsingdi. Dr. tried to talk about these issues. Matiur Rahman was not found.

The Crime Desk: President of the Customs Excise VAT Appellate Tribunal of the National Board of Revenue.
