They were a terror to law enforcement agencies due to blindfolded abductions, robberies, and murders. In the 1990s, their influence began to decline due to political changes. Many extremists flocked to the Awami League, BNP, and Jatiya Party.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some of those marked on the political register hide their past misdeeds. However, due to the case, many could not come publicly; they were in secret. Meanwhile, law and order forces have stepped up their operations after several top extremist leaders died in a &#8216;gunfight&#8217;. After being in hiding, thousands of members of the extremist group surrendered in two phases through RAB.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But those who left the area with a change of clothes came to Dhaka and entered various businesses. Many of them are returning to their old form whenever they get a chance. Especially in the politics of Khulna, Jessore, and Kushtia, many extremists are involved. They are the regulators of various tasks, including contracting. The local police also have information about this.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Recently, in the mysterious murder of Jhenaidah-4 Constituency MP Anwarul Azim Anna in Kolkata, the news of the involvement of East Bengal Communist Party (ML-Janjuddha) top leader Shimul Bhuiyan has come into discussion again. Before this, the name of extremists often came from several misdeeds in the southern region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is known that the southwestern districts of Bangladesh were once known as the sanctuaries of various extremist groups. From the 1960s, various left-wing groups started their activities in the region and were based on &#8216;Marxism&#8217; and &#8216;Maoist&#8217; ideology. After the independence of Bangladesh, the activities of these groups increased in Khulna, Jessore, Kushtia, Jhenaidah, Magura, Meherpur, and Chuadanga districts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">These organizations believed in far-left ideology from the beginning. However, the organizations deviated from leftist ideals and got involved with criminal tendencies. There were continuous differences between extremist organizations over conflicts of ideology or financial sharing, and as a result, various factions started to emerge. The members of these extremist groups did not hesitate to kill their opponents. Killing someone in broad daylight has been a modus operandi of various extremist groups.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A former teacher of Dhaka University, Professor Abul Kashem Fazlul Haque, said that when Bangladesh was established, a chaotic situation arose in the governance system of Bangladesh. A few Marxist groups emerged in this situation. Among these were groups that would establish a socialist system by seizing state power by creating terror through the assassination of enemies. Extremist groups ultimately lack public support. But common people were afraid of them. Abul Kashem Fazlul Haque said that after the departure of the old communist leaders from the scene, these extremist organizations practically focus on criminal activities, through which they can earn money. Those who are such extremists are talking about their political ideology but have deviated from it and indulged in extortion.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile, in response to RAB&#8217;s call, on May 21, 2023, more than three hundred active members of several underground extremist organizations surrendered. They surrendered by handing over their arms to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at the RAB-12 headquarters in Salanga, Sirajganj. The extremist organizations that surrendered were East Bengal Communist Party ML (Red Flag), East Bengal Proletariat Party (MBRM), East Bengal Proletariat Party (Janjuddha), and Kadamati. 315 extremists from 7 districts surrendered with 216 weapons.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Earlier on April 9, 2019, 614 people identified as extremists surrendered at Shahid Amin Uddin Stadium in Pabna. They were members of the banned East Bengal Proletarian Party; some were affiliated with the East Bengal Communist Party or the New Revolutionary Communist Party. Although they went by different names, the activities of these terrorists were almost the same. In the presence of Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, members of extremist groups from 15 districts surrendered with hundreds of illegal firearms and thousands of local and foreign weapons. Since the 1980s, the area around Chalanbil has been cut off by extremists. 209 people were killed by them across the country in the 18 years since 2000. 197 cases were filed against them in different police stations around the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On the other hand, the East Bengal Proletarian Party suddenly became active in Madaripur in December 2023. When they spread leaflets before the election, panic was created in the public mind. Five years ago, the organization also hoisted the flag in the area. No activity was seen after that. Out of this, RAB-3 arrested extremist mastermind murderer Aktaruzzaman Dolar (55), who was sentenced to life in the sensational Motiar Rahman Tarafdar (30) murder case on March 22, from Dhaka&#8217;s Cantonment Manikadi area. In 1993, Matiyar of Kota village under Abhaynagar police station in Jessore district was killed in a gunfight between members of the East Bengal Communist Party.
