More than half a hundred members of Parliament have been accused of disobeying the central directive of the Awami League. The party high command instructed the MPs not to support anyone in the upcoming Upazila parish elections. But many MPs are ignoring this instruction. Some MP&#8217;s wives, children, brothers-nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and uncles-nephews are contesting for the post of chairman in the Bayaira Upazila Parishad elections.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile, some of the Ministers-MPs, openly and indirectly, are supporting their relatives and their followers-loyal chairman candidates. The top-level leaders of the Awami League are unhappy with the interference of influential people in open elections. According to party sources, such complaints have been submitted to the center against more than half a hundred party- and party-independent members of parliament. The Center is looking into the complaints to take organizational action against them. Condolences, warnings, subpoenas\u2014even the expulsion of MPs from their current party posts\u2014are being considered.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Incidentally, according to the constitution of the Awami League, if the primary member of the party is not expelled, the position of parliamentarian will remain. There is nothing wrong with the relatives of ministers and MPs being candidates. However, giving support to relatives is against the organizational decision. Elections in 481 upazila parishes of the country will be held in four phases. The first phase of voting will be held on May 8. The Election Commission (EC) has already announced the election schedule for 152 upazila parishads in the first phase and 161 upazila parishads in the second phase. The second phase of voting will be held on May 21.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For a long time, the ruling party MPs were trying to keep the important positions in the Awami League committees of the district and upazila in the possession of their families. This time their eyes are on the Upazila council elections. They have become desperate to establish sole dominance in the upazila. Even half a hundred MPs in the field use&#8217;money-power-influence&#8217; to win over their relatives. Among them are some independent MPs who are incumbent leaders of the Awami League. There is extreme anger in the Trinamool Awami League. Everyone has raised the question of why MPs should choose a single candidate even in a symbolless vote.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Letter to the Prime Minister not to allow MP&#8217;s son to be a candidate: Awami League&#8217;s Sahadara Mannan, Member of Parliament for Bogra-1 Constituency consisting of Sariakandi and Sonatala Upazila of Bogra. Among these two upazilas, Sahadara Mannan has announced his son Sakhawat Hossain Sajal in Sariakandi and his younger brother Minhaduzzaman in Sonatala. A section of local leaders is angry with his announcement. The chairman of 11 of the 12 unions of the upazila has sent a letter to the Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina not to field Sajal. Copies of this have been sent to General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Organizing Secretary SM Kamal, Office Secretary Biplab Barua, and Bogra Press Club.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Allegation of disobeying instructions against a Presidium member: Member of Parliament of Tangail-1 (Dhanbari-Madhupur) Constituency, presidium member of the Awami League, and former Minister of Agriculture. Abdur Razzak has nominated two candidates for the post of chairman in two upazilas of his constituency. The leader of the party&#8217;s highest policy-making forum announced the candidate by holding a special extended meeting of the local Awami League. It is known that Awami League presidium member Dr. President and General Secretary of Dhanbari Upazila Awami League submitted a written complaint against Abdur Razzak to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. According to the written complaint, the member of parliament has declared his cousin and his favorite person as the &#8216;chairman&#8217; candidates in the upazila election in his constituency.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lutful Habib (Rubel) has been declared the &#8216;lone candidate&#8217; in Singra Upazila of Natore. He is the brother-in-law of Minister of State for Information and Communication Technology Junaid Ahmed. Madaripur Sadar Upazila owns a son. Awami League Member of Parliament Shajahan Khan announced Asibur Rahman Khan as a candidate. Vice President of Asibur District Chhatra League and Member of Central Jubo League. Sadat Mannan, son of former Planning Minister and current Member of Parliament MA Mannan, is conducting mass communication as a chairman candidate in Sunamganj&#8217;s Shantiganj upazila. MA Mannan himself is introducing his son at various events. The current chairman of Sunamganj Sadar Upazila Parishad, District Jubo League convener Khairul Huda, is also a candidate this time. His elder brother is the president of the district Awami League and the chairman of the district council. In the same upazila, Jubo League leader Fazle Rabbi, son of Shamsunnahar Begum, former Member of Parliament for the reserved women&#8217;s seat and president of the District Women&#8217;s Awami League, is campaigning for the post of chairman. Candidate in Manikganj Sadar Upazila is the current chairman and president of Sadar Upazila Awami League. Israfil Hossain. He is the cousin of Manikganj-3 Member of Parliament and former Health Minister Zahid Malek. In Kushtia Sadar Upazila, Ataur Rahman, cousin of MP Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, is the current chairman. He will be elected again this time. Ashiq Ali, son of local MP Mohammad Ali, has been announced as a candidate in Noakhali&#8217;s Hatiya. Mohammad Ekramul Karim Chowdhury, Member of Parliament for Noakhali-4 Constituency in Subarnachar Upazila, has announced the name of his son, Atahar Ishraq Shabab Chowdhury, as candidate. Moulvibazar-1 Constituency MP Shahab Uddin has declared brother Shoaib Ahmed as the chairman candidate in the Baralekha upazila election of Moulvibazar. Chuadanga-2 Constituency MP Ali Azgar Togar nominated his brother Ali Munsur Babu as chairman of his constituency, Damurhuda Upazila. Narsingdi-3 constituency MP Sirajul Islam Mollah has announced that his wife Ferdausi Islam will be the chairman candidate in his constituency Shibpur upazila. He will support her.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">MP of Comilla-10 Constituency, former Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, declared his brother Golam Sarwar as chairman candidate in the Comilla Sadar Dakshin Upazila Parishad elections. Mustafa Kamal&#8217;s constituency Lalmai Upazila Parishad Chairman Kamrul Islam Shaheen is his nephew. Narayanganj-1 Constituency MP, Former Textile and Jute Minister Golam Dastgir Ghazi. In the second phase, polling for Rupganj Upazila Parishad will be held. In this vote, this government party MP announced his son Gazi Golam Mortuza Pappa as a candidate for the Rupganj upazila election. Ghulam Dastgir Gazi&#8217;s wife, Mrs. Hasina Gazi, is the mayor of Tarab Municipality.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Despite the decision not to field party candidates, local conflicts are increasing in various places as the candidates of the members of parliament are being announced as candidates. Awami League is meeting with the leaders of each department separately to resolve the conflict. Apart from giving instructions there, a statement sent to the media also informed that party ministers and members of parliament should be instructed not to interfere illegally. In a statement, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said organizational instructions are being given to Awami League party parliamentarians and activists, including ministers, not to be involved in activities to destroy the neutrality of elections.
