The New Zealand government announced on Sunday (April 7) that it would tighten the work visa policy to prevent the influx of low-skilled immigrants.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The BBC reported this information in a report on Monday (April 8).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Among the changes introduced in New Zealand&#8217;s new policy are special English language skills, the report said. New Zealand&#8217;s Ministry of Immigration says that even in low-skilled jobs, anyone who wants to come to work in this country must have special English language skills. Otherwise, the work visa will not be issued.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Those who get such a visa cannot stay for 5 years from now. The permit will be for three years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">New Zealand&#8217;s Ministry of Immigration says that a record 173,000 immigrants came to the country last year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Statistics say that 5.1 million people live in New Zealand. There has been an increase in immigration since the pandemic. Due to this, the financial sector is somewhat stagnant there.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">New Zealand&#8217;s immigration ministry has decided to drop earlier plans to add 11 fields, such as welders, fitters, and turners, to the list of fast-track jobs under the new visa policy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The country&#8217;s immigration minister, Erica Stanford, said, &#8220;The government wants to attract more skilled and interested foreign workers.&#8221; Teachers can be on this list. Manpower is low in this sector.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He also said, &#8216;At the same time, we have to ensure that New Zealanders get priority in jobs. We must ensure that our own citizens are not deprived due to immigrants.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Fixing our immigration settings is critical to this government&#8217;s plan to rebuild the economy,&#8221; the immigration minister said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the country&#8217;s policymakers, the influx of immigrants is driving up housing and commodity prices and adding to inflationary pressures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile, the Employers and Manufacturers Association of New Zealand has expressed concern over the announcement to tighten the work visa policy. The agency said the new visa rules could have unintended consequences.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On Monday (April 8), the association&#8217;s head of advocacy, Alan Macdonald, said, &#8216;We are bringing in the right workers and supporting them to ensure they are not exploited. But we have to ensure that the balance is right in the employment sector.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Making it harder for motivated workers to come to New Zealand means they will go elsewhere,&#8221; he said.
