Sadar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Belayet Hossain appeared at the scene at that time. He immediately seized all the trees and temporarily stopped the road work. The incident took place in the Bhulli-Farabari area of Baragaon Union of Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila on Saturday (March 16) afternoon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is known that the UNO came to Sarzamin and talked with the workers and local people after receiving information about the illegal cutting of government trees. They told UNO that the trees were being cut on the orders of Faizur Rahmano, Chairman of the Bargaon Union. At this time, workers told media workers that about 200 trees were cut. The workers also said that the chairman would pay the wages for cutting trees.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is also known that some local beneficiary women have been taking care of the trees for 30 years after planting them on government land on the side of the road. In 1992, under the tree planting project on the road from Bhulli Baragaon to Farabari, about 8 km, the first party was the Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila Parishad, the second party was the Organization for Rural Development (ORD), and the third party was the ten local women of the Banalta Women&#8217;s Development Team. In this agreement, if each woman plants 150 trees, a total of 1,500 trees will be planted. Which is valid until 2026. After this time, those women will get a share of the profit after cutting the trees according to the government rules. But in the meantime, LGED started road-widening work. However, about two hundred trees on the road have been cut down without regard to any government rules, and the women have complained.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The beneficiary women complained that the trees were cut without informing any of us. When we tried to intervene, no one listened to us. Later, when we told UNO sir over the phone, he confiscated the trees. But in the meantime, some trees, leaves, and branches have turned green.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bargaon Union Parishad Chairman Faizur Rahman claimed that the trees were uprooted as a result of the contractor&#8217;s use of the Veku machine while box-cutting the road on Friday (March 15). It was being taken to the Union Parishad to prevent the trees from being looted.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When asked about the sale of trees and leaves, the chairman said that the leaves had been sold. I have not yet sold the tree. He could not give the account for the sale immediately. When asked on whose instructions he sold the leaves, he evaded the question.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, the contractor claimed that he had given no instructions to the Veku driver to uproot the tree. He said that where the trees were cut, several kilometers of road box cutting had been done before. The work of box cutting has been going on for a few days. No trees were cut or uprooted.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He further said, I have learned from talking to the driver of the Veku vehicle that some local people forced him to uproot the trees and said that they would take the trees away. I don&#8217;t know exactly who they are. All the facts will come out in the investigation of this incident.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sadar Upazila Engineer Abdul Quader could not provide any information when asked what the rules are for cutting government trees in the field of road development. On the contrary, media workers are told not to bother about everything.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, an official of the office, who did not want to reveal his name, said that the upazila engineer will write to UNO if government trees need to be cut for road development. Later, the UNO will write to the Forest Department, asking them to identify and price those trees and sell them at auction. If there are any other rules, UNO will know better. But the LGED engineer of Sadar Upazila did not receive the call when contacted again to ascertain whether any such rules had been followed in this case.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Executive Officer of Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila, Belayet Hossain, said that under whose orders the trees were cut or uprooted, these are the subject of investigation. I don&#8217;t want to comment immediately. But what has happened in the case of cutting so many trees is unethical. It has been asked to stop the box-cutting work on the road for the time being.
