Some political office bearers are behind almost every type of misdeed, including hill cutting, human trafficking, wildlife trafficking, lethal drug yaba-phencidyl-ice trade, human land grabbing, house grabbing, foot traffic, juvenile gang control, arms trade, and overt and silent extortion. It can be heard that Rohingyas fleeing displacement from Myanmar are becoming citizens with Bangladeshi birth certificates with the help of dishonest public representatives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Police say criminals try to use political identities in almost all cases except domestic violence. The alleged &#8216;big brother&#8217; lobbied the police to get them out. A class of policemen has an affinity for criminals. They take a green signal from the local police station before committing any major crime. The police are not seen to be very active, as they regularly give masohara to the police station. As a result, the victims do not go to the police station and get legal recourse. They were asked to go to the court from the police station. The network of criminals extends to the courts. There are also dedicated lawyers to provide legal assistance to criminals. They provide various types of legal assistance, including creating fake documents and getting bail. When someone files a case against the criminals, they try to harass innocent people by filing counter-cases.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hill cutting in Chittagong has not been stopped by any government action. New structures are being built by cutting hills overnight in the North Pahartali Ward of the city. Most of the hills are being cut in the Akbarshah area of this ward. The Department of Environment has filed 32 cases in the Environment Court in the past two years on charges of hill cutting. Of these, 20 cases have been reported due to hill cutting in Akbarshah and adjoining areas. Talking to the officials of the Department of Environment and local environmentalists, it is known that the cutting of hills is mainly under the leadership of the temporarily expelled North Pahartali Ward Councilor Zahurul Alam, alias Jasim. He is the joint secretary of the Ward Awami League. He has also been accused in three cases filed by the Department of Environment. It is known that there were about 35 hills in North Pahartali Mauza. 20 does not exist. At present, 15 hills are partially or fully cut. Plots and houses have been made by cutting hills. This ward of the city has the highest number of people living at risk of hills. According to the district administration, at least 40,000 people live illegally in the hills in Jheel numbers one, two, and three, Vijayanagar, Jianagar, and Beltlighona. Bangladesh Environmental Law Association (BELA) filed a writ in 2015 seeking directions to stop the cutting of hills covering 10.51 acres of land in North Pahartali Mauza of Akbar Shah police station. Then the High Court banned the cutting of that mountain. Despite the ban, the local councilor continued to cut the hill.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Councilors have created a reign of terror in some wards of the city. Allegations of land grabbing against an influential ward councilor are under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission. No one can open their mouths in fear against his foster gang of teenagers. To build a new house, buy and sell a flat, or start a business, the ward councilor has to pay a subscription. There is a fixed rate of subscription. If you buy an old flat, you have to pay 2 lakh taka, 5 percent of the total price when buying land, and 1 to 5 lakh taka if you want to open a shop. The buying and selling of new flats or shops is done through youth gangs. Homework cannot be done without their contribution. Complaining to the police about these matters is of no use. Another councilor of Chittagong has built a two-story market by occupying government private land. Cleaning the garbage from the city streets is one of the responsibilities of the city corporation, but many councilors are busy with it. Although the city residents pay tax to the city corporation for cleaning the garbage, some councilors take extra money from the citizens and collect the garbage from their houses with their own people.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Chittagong is being used as a safe route for any kind of drug trafficking, including yaba. A police official said on condition of anonymity that at least three ward councilors in Chittagong are indirectly involved in the drug and arms trade. Those who, even a few years ago, had conditions like Punta Forano to fetch salt now live in expensive flats and drive luxury cars. The police say that many chairman-members of some upazilas in South Chittagong are doing business. Again, the locals complain that the police are taking whatever cash is available without catching the Yaba smugglers and releasing them. The officials of the Narcotics Control Department are working, pretending not to see these things. Yaba shipments are occasionally intercepted in raids by the Reb and Coast Guard, but these are negligible compared to the need. Apart from road and sea routes, yaba smuggling has also started on trains currently running on the Dhaka-Cox&#8217;s Bazar route. In order to prevent yaba smuggling, it is reported that, besides strengthening the search, scanners have been installed at Cox&#8217;s Bazar station. A resident of Chittagong&#8217;s Anwara upazila said that several public representatives of that upazila are directly involved in yaba business.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Despite the strict instructions of the Election Commission, the National Identity Cards (NID) are reaching the hands of the Rohingyas who fled to Bangladesh after being displaced from Myanmar. Rohingyas are being included in the voter list in various regions of the country, including Chittagong. The situation has reached such a level that now-registered Rohingyas are also becoming voters. Even the EC&#8217;s warnings across the country did not work. After investigating this, the EC found that the issuers of birth certificates, parents, and identity cards are guilty of making Rohingya voters. Rohingyas are getting NIDs because of dishonest public representatives. And trying to become a voter with it. It is known that a class of dishonest officials and employees of public representatives and the EC are making Rohingya voters in exchange for a huge amount of money. This information has also emerged from various intelligence agencies and EC reports.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Krishna Pad Roy said in a recent event that police work in Chittagong is very challenging due to geographical reasons. As there is a problem of mountain cutting, there is also a problem of human trafficking. In addition to this, there are common crimes, including yaba business. With the advancement of technology, the multi-dimensionality of crime is also increasing. Without the cooperation of the public, the task of controlling crime in this huge metropolis is quite difficult.
