Dhaka Bureau:<\/strong> 35 years ago today, a woman of Sagira Morshed Sam was shot dead in Siddheshwari, the capital. Sagira’s husband filed a case, accusing terrorists Maruf Reza and Anas Mahmud of this incident. The verdict in the case will be announced on Thursday (February 8). Judge Mohammad Ali Hossain of Dhaka Special Judge Court-3 will announce the verdict.<\/p>\n

According to the judgment in the case, the state party is expecting the death penalty for four accused. On the other hand, the lawyers of the accused said that the state has failed to prove the charges against the accused, as a result of which the accused will be acquitted.<\/p>\n

In this regard, Rafiqul Islam, the state counsel of Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-3, told the media that we have been able to prove the charges brought against the accused. I expect the death penalty for the accused in the verdict.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the lawyer for the accused, Mosharraf Hossain Kajol, said that the state party has failed to prove the charges brought against the accused. After reviewing all the evidence, we hope the accused will be acquitted. We expect justice from the court.<\/p>\n

Sagira Morshed’s father-in-law, who died in the deposition of the case, Hasan Ali Chowdhury said that he had a private practice in Iskaton. Accused Maruf Reza was his patient; he used to mastani in the city. He appointed him to discipline Sagira Morshed. A contract was made with him for 25 thousand taka for this work. But Maruf did not know Reza Sagira Morshed. For this, Hasan Ali assigned his brother-in-law to introduce Sagira Morshed.<\/p>\n

On July 24, 1989, Sagira Morshed’s stepmother came to Dhaka from America. That’s why Sagira Morshed and Abdus Salam could not attend the ceremony at their residence in Rajarbagh. Sagira Morshed’s brother, Dr. Gawaz Newaz, could not come to the ceremony. Sagira Morshed dropped her elder daughter at Vikarunnisa Noon School on July 25 to deliver food to Gaoj Newaz and went to Dhanmondi Baba’s house with her middle daughter and younger daughter. Sagira Morshed returned from her father’s house in Rajarbagh to her husband’s house around 4 p.m.<\/p>\n

At the time of the incident, Sagira Morshed’s elder daughter, Siddheshwari Vikarunnisa, was studying in Class II during the day shift at Noon School. His school was half past one in the afternoon. Mother used to bring her elder daughter to school regularly by rickshaw. Dr. the matter. Hasan Ali Chowdhury, his wife Shaheen, and his brother-in-law Anas Mahmud knew. On July 25, Hasan Ali Chowdhury ordered Anas to go to the beehive between 1:30 PM and 2:00 PM to introduce Sagira Morshed to Maruf Reza. After getting the details from Hasan Ali Chowdhury over the phone, he left his house in Mohammadpur, first by bus, then by tempo, and reached Maucha at around 3:30 in the afternoon.<\/p>\n

About 15\u201320 minutes after reaching Anas, Maruf Reza reached Mouchak on a motorcycle. On a motorcycle, they both moved towards Vikarunnisa Noon School. Later, Vikarunnisa Noon sat on a motorcycle a little way from the school gate and waited for Sagira Morshed. At around 5:30 PM, Sagira Morshed left home to fetch her elder daughter from school. He hired a rickshaw from a rickshaw puller named Chalam Molla for 4 taka and left for the school. When Sagira Morshed’s rickshaw passed in the middle of Siddheshwari in front of the Malibag Mor petrol pump, Anas Mahmud, who was already waiting, pointed to Maruf Reza with his fingers and said, “This is Sagira Morshed.”<\/p>\n

Maruf Reza immediately followed Sagira Morshed’s rickshaw on his motorcycle. Later, go in front of the rickshaw and stand with the barricade and the motorcycle. At that time, they both got off the motorcycle. Maruf Reza Sagira snatched Morshed’s handbag and pulled the gold chain around her neck. Maruf Reza scolds Sagira Morshed when she screams. Sagira Morshed recognized Anas Mahmud at that time. Saying, ‘You are Rezwan; I know you; why are you here?’ Immediately after saying this, Maruf Reza took out the revolver from his waist and fired one round at Sagira Morshed. The first shot hit Sagira, who mumbled below her right elbow. Maruf then fired another round. The second bullet penetrated Sagira Morshed’s chest and exited straight back, piercing the hood of the rickshaw. As Sagira Morshed was shot in the chest, he fell from the rickshaw.<\/p>\n

As Sagira Morshed was shot in the chest, he fell to the left side of the rickshaw. The rickshaw was covered with blood all over his body. After Sagira shot Morshed a second time, Anas Mahmud Maruf told Reza, “Let’s run.” They drop Sagira Morshed’s bag. Meanwhile, Maruf Reza immediately fired a round of blank bullets upwards to spread fear. They then fled from there in front of Habibullah Bahar College when the rickshaw puller carrying Sagira Morshed, Chalam Mollah, chased her with a brick in hand, shouting that she was a hijacker.<\/p>\n

Maruf Reza dropped Anas Mahmud from his motorcycle in front of Habibullah Bahar College near Shantinagar. Meanwhile, the rickshaw puller came back and saw that Sagira Morshed was not there. He saw blood in the rickshaw. Later, he went to the Ramna police station and reported the matter.<\/p>\n

Sagira Morshed was shot dead on July 25, 1989. Maruf Reza and Anas Mahmud were accused in the case filed by Sagira’s husband. On January 16, 2020, the investigating officer of the case, Inspector Rafiqul Islam of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), filed a charge sheet against four people in court.<\/p>\n

The investigating officer mentioned in the charge sheet that the accused, Shaheen, had a rift with Sagira Morshed’s family. Besides, her mother-in-law disliked Sagira, and there was a conflict between Sagira and Shaheen over educational qualifications. There was also a family conflict over addressing.<\/p>\n

It is also said in the charge sheet that the accused, Dr. Sagira’s maid, was beaten. Hasan Ali Chowdhury. Shaheen threatened to take care of Sagira in the family meeting. The accused planned to kill Sagira at their house. Dr., according to plan. Hasan Ali entered his chamber with the other accused, Maruf Raza, and entered into a murder contract for Tk 25,000. Hasan Ali gave Maruf Reza 15,000 out of the 25,000 taka. Although he promised to pay Tk 10,000 later, he did not give him that money.<\/p>\n

On December 2, 2021, Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayesh’s court framed charges against Sagira Morsheder Vasur and four people. Through this, the formal trial of this case started after 31 years. Then, on January 11, last year, Abdus Salam Chowdhury, the plaintiff in the case and Sagira Morshed’s husband, testified in court. Through this, the testimony in this case began.<\/p>\n

The defendants in the case are Dr. Vasur and the deceased. Hasan Ali Chowdhury and his wife Syedatul Mahmuda alias Shaheen, brother-in-law Anas Mahmud alias Rezwan, and Maruf Reza. All four arrested have given a confessional statement in court. So far, 17 people have testified in court in this case.<\/p>\n
