Cox’s Bazar Correspondent:<\/strong> Myanmar’s Rakhine state is hot. A fierce battle between the army and the armed group Arakan Army is underway ahead of the third anniversary of the military junta’s seizure of power. According to unconfirmed sources, 12 to 15 people have been killed in the war this week. In this situation, China has taken a special initiative to mediate the ceasefire in Rakhine State. Meanwhile, the Rohingya repatriation is feared to be hampered due to instability in Rakhine State. Bangladesh has increased vigilance in the border area due to the increase in the severity of the war. Bangladesh Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General Major General AKM Nazmul Hasan visited the border area on Sunday. The sound of gunfire in Myanmar has created panic in the Bangladeshi part of the border.<\/p>\n

The country’s army seized power in Myanmar on February 1, 2021, after removing the government of Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi. Since then, the country’s military has been at war with Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD) and various armed groups. The Rakhine state of Myanmar, bordering Bangladesh, was recently attacked by the armed Arakan Army, which captured many army posts. The Myanmar army has so far not prevented these attacks. But ahead of the third anniversary of the junta’s seizure of power, the country’s army has launched a major operation against the Arakan Army. Heavy casualties were reported after the army launched a simultaneous air, ship, and ground operation against the Arakan Army. The Arakan Army has positioned itself behind the Rohingya in a village in Rakhine State. They are basically using the Rohingya as a shield. In this situation, when the Myanmar Army fired at the Arakan Army in the ground operation, it is believed that some Rohingya died in the middle of the conflict. The UN refugee agency, UNHCR, evacuated the casualties in their ambulances. In such a scenario, it is assumed that the victims are the remaining Rohingya members staying in Myanmar. However, none of this information is available from the junta government. The junta does not give any information about the war. The anti-juntas provide some information by managing various online sites, including Irrawaddy.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, China’s ambassador to Dhaka, Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan, met with Mahmud. In addition to other issues, the Rakhine crisis was also discussed. After the meeting, Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen told waiting reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that China is seeking a ceasefire in Rakhine State. China continues to mediate efforts to repatriate the Rohingyas. In this case, a ceasefire is needed in Rakhine State. China will continue to try to repatriate the Rohingya. However, the United Nations Resident Representative in Dhaka, Louise Nguyen, said that now is not the right time to repatriate the Rohingya. After the meeting with the foreign minister, Nguyen said, “We discussed the issue of safe and dignified repatriation of the Rohingyas.” But now is not the right time to send them back.<\/p>\n

Bangladesh’s border guards are on high alert because of the fighting in Rakhine State. It is generally believed that Rohingyas try to cross into Bangladesh when there is tension in Rakhine State. May also try to take advantage of the current situation. Due to such fears, this alert position at the border. However, no one is known to have tried to enter Bangladesh in the current situation. Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud, however, says that the situation in Myanmar is sometimes good and sometimes bad. Repatriation efforts are currently being hampered as the current situation worsens.
