Of these, 200 accounts were seized yesterday. Illegal remittances from abroad were deposited in these MFS accounts. This information is known from the sources of Bangladesh Bank.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When asked, Bangladesh Bank&#8217;s Executive Director and Spokesperson GM Abul Kalam Azad said that various steps have been taken so far by the government and Bangladesh Bank to prevent hundi. As part of this, 230 MFS accounts have been frozen this year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Bangladesh Bank in a press release urged expatriate Bangladeshis and their loved ones to use legitimate channels instead of hundi. The notification said, &#8216;Remittance of hard-earned foreign currency outside the banking channel (through hundi or any other illegal route) is a punishable offense and causes losses to the country. Send your earned valuable foreign currency to the country legally or through banking channels without sending it through hundi or any other illegal route, make a valuable contribution to country building and keep your loved ones risk-free and safe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The notification mentioned that Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) is taking appropriate measures as per existing law.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In this regard, a responsible official of BFIU said that Bangladesh Bank has taken the initiative to freeze the account to stop illegal remittances. Efforts are being made to encourage those whose accounts have been frozen to use legitimate channels instead of using illegal channels. These frozen accounts will be reopened after these account holders start sending remittances through legitimate channels and inform the BFIU.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8216;Hundi Karbaris&#8217; used to deliver cash from house to house. Now in tune with the times they are transferring money through customer&#8217;s MFS account. There are allegations that Hundi&#8217;s money is being transacted using bank accounts. This activity is being carried out using special mobile apps. This process is called Digital Hundi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Earlier, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police said that at least 5,000 agents of MFS institutions like Bikash-Nagad and Rocket are involved in bringing money from abroad and sending money abroad illegally. As a result these agencyships have been cancelled. According to the CID, the country has been deprived of remittances worth Rs 25,000 crore in the last four months only due to hundi in mobile accounts. Another year, about 7.8 billion dollars did not come to the country. 16 people involved in hundi have been arrested so far.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Due to the closure of illegal channels during the Corona period, remittances have come in large numbers through banking channels. But since the Corona situation normalized, the remittance in the banking channel has been decreasing. Illegal means are becoming active. Hundi trend is increasing. Despite the various steps taken by the government and Bangladesh Bank in recent times, sending money to the country through Hundi has not stopped. Due to the ineffectiveness of hundi traders in various countries, a large part of the hard-earned foreign currency of expatriates is not coming to the country. Instead, instructions or messages to pay in local currency are coming to the country.
