Dhaka Bureau:<\/strong> After the death of baby Ayaan due to the negligence of the doctors in the capital’s United Medical College Hospital while undergoing circumcision, a mother and her new-born child died in an illegal private hospital in Barguna district’s Bamna Upazila. Relatives alleged that they died due to the wrong treatment.<\/p>\n

They said, around 11:15 on Monday night, maternity Meghla Aktar was admitted to Sundarban Hospital and Diagnostic Center next to Bamana Upazila Health Complex. A caesarean operation was performed on him by a doctor in this unauthorized hospital. Mother and newborn die due to wrong treatment. In this incident, the local administration sealed the hospital yesterday.<\/p>\n

According to the investigation, there are thousands of illegal hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centers in front of and around the Upazila Health Complex across the country. Although they have been doing illegal business for a long time, the health department is not monitoring them properly. On the contrary, there are complaints about receiving regular masohara from them. To take care of them, there are officials from the Ministry to Directorate, Divisional Director (Health) Office, Civil Surgeon Office, Upazila Health, and Family Welfare Officers. Besides, there is a monitoring committee consisting of the health directorate and the ministry. But these committees are not working properly. 90% of the officers responsible for monitoring are regularly paid at fixed rates. Because of this, there is no counting how many people like Ayaan and Meghla Akhtar are dying due to negligence and wrong treatment.<\/p>\n

Expert doctors said that nothing will be done by investigating, jailing, and fining those involved in negligence, wrong treatment, and those who are not doing these monitoring. Because of them, many lives are lost every day, like baby Ayaan and pregnant Meghla, which amounts to murder. So strict measures (capital punishment) should be taken against them. Only then will the business of killing people by making illegal hospitals, clinics, and diagnostics come down, they said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, all illegal and unauthorized hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centers have been ordered to be closed, said Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Samant Lal Sen. In an exchange meeting with the Bangladesh Health Reporters Forum, an organization of journalists working in the health sector, at the secretariat on Tuesday, he said, ‘There are many problems in the health sector. I said I would not give concessions on corruption. These unauthorized, unlicensed hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centers cannot be allowed to operate. I can’t do it in one day. But my message is that these unauthorized clinics and hospitals must be closed. Action must be taken against them. I myself am a victim of these.<\/p>\n

Those concerned said that each upazila health complex has an operation theater, a pathology center, and doctor-nurse posts. But the real picture is that many places do not have technicians; there are doctors. Again, many places have anesthetists but no surgeons. This is the condition of most health complexes. Many upazila health complexes are locked down due to a manpower shortage. A class of officials from the health department did not take any action after seeing this. They are known as linemen, gangleaders, and bribe takers. However, several officials of the department said that they receive regular bribe packets.<\/p>\n

Expert doctors said that it is important to increase the private health system along with government health care. Because the country needs one and a half lakh emergency beds every day. But there are more than half a million beds in the government and private sectors. Where will the rest of the patients go? A private hospital-clinic-diagnostic center has been developed like a frog umbrella for this opportunity. Among them, the number of valid private hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centers is 15 thousand. There are four times more illegal. These illegal hospital-clinic doctors, nurses, and technologists are far from it; people with fake degrees are running freely under the nose of the administration. And due to dishonest officials, illegal hospitals and clinics in the country are not being reined in. These illegal hospital clinics do not have the necessary equipment and manpower to run a hospital clinic. 90% of private hospitals and clinics do not follow WHO’s minimum guidelines.<\/p>\n

Bamana (Barguna) Correspondent said that on Tuesday, around noon, Bamana Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md. Tarek Hasan, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, Moniruzzaman and Bamana police station officer-in-charge Tushar Kumar Mandal locked the Sundarban Hospital and Diagnostic Center and brought the admitted patients to Bamana Health Complex in the case of the death of a mother-newborn due to wrong treatment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
