Now the organization is moving towards organizing the sixth upazila parish election step by step. In this case, the election may start in the first half of March. EC officials said the schedule could be completed by the end of January. In this regard, the first phase of voting is planned to be held in early March. The organization has already asked the Ministry of Local Government to provide information on the last time the vote was held in any upazila, when the first meeting was held, etc.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">EC officials also said that the fifth Upazila Parishad of 2019 was held in five phases. At that time, the schedule of 488 Upazila Parishads was announced. Of these, 455 elections were held in due course, while others were held later. That year, 82 upazilas were held in the first phase on March 10, 123 in the second phase on March 18, 122 in the third phase on March 24, 106 in the fourth phase on March 31, and 22 in the fifth phase on June 18. Currently, the number of upazilas in the country is 495.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">According to the law, the term of the Upazila Parishad is five years from the first meeting. And the election has to be done within 180 days before the expiration of the term. Officials say that since the fifth upazila parish election was held in five phases, So the oath is also done in five or more steps. Therefore, the tenure of the upazilas will end in a few steps. And accordingly, the sixth upazila parish election time will be calculated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile, the Election Commission has asked the local government ministry as well as EC field officers to provide the same information. Copies of the letter in this regard have been given to the Upazila Nirbahi officers and district administrators. According to the instructions, in the event of the expiration of the term of the Parishad as per Section 17(1)(c) of the Upazila Parishad Act, 1998, the election shall be held within the previous 180 (one hundred and eighty) days from the date of expiry of that term. The Election Commission has decided to send information on the date of taking oath and the first meeting of the fifth Upazila Parishad in order to hold the general election of the sixth Upazila Parishad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">It is known that in the first and second phases, the oaths of the winners were taken in March 2019. Other phases are held later in April and May. As such, the counting of the Sixth Upazila Parishad election has already started.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">In this regard, EC Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath said that the first phase of the upazila elections may be scheduled by the end of this month. However, the commission will take the final decision on when the schedule and voting will be held.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">The general elections of Upazila Parishad were held for the first time in 1985, the second time in 1990, the third time in 2009, the fourth time in 2014, and the fifth time in 2019.
