{"id":11941,"date":"2024-01-13T16:38:31","date_gmt":"2024-01-13T16:38:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thecrimebd.net\/english\/?p=11941"},"modified":"2024-01-13T16:38:31","modified_gmt":"2024-01-13T16:38:31","slug":"the-government-rejected-the-statements-of-six-international-organizations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thecrimebd.net\/english\/news\/11941\/","title":{"rendered":"The government rejected the statements of six international organizations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\"><strong>Dhaka Bureau:<\/strong> The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has rejected the statement made by six international organizations that the 12th parliamentary election of Bangladesh on January 7 was &#8216;not in accordance with international standards&#8217; as &#8216;biased and unreasonable&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">On January 12, six organizations\u2014the Asian Network for Free Elections, the World Alliance for Citizen Participation, the International Federation for Human Rights, the Asian Democracy Network, the Capital Punishment Justice Project (Australia), and the Anti-Death Penalty Asia Network\u2014said this in a statement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">The January 7 election was neither &#8216;genuine&#8217; nor &#8216;competitive&#8217;, the agencies said in a statement. These organizations also raised serious questions about the non-compliance of democratic norms and international standards for elections.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Saturday (January 13) that the allegations raised in the statement are false and baseless.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">The foreign ministry said, &#8216;The international community and various countries have already praised and welcomed the new government for conducting free, fair, credible, and peaceful elections. In this context, the call for fresh elections is absurd and unacceptable.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">&#8216;The 12th National Parliament Election of Bangladesh was held in a very free, fair, transparent, festive atmosphere and with massive participation of the people. A total of 1,534 candidates from 28 registered political parties and 436 independent candidates participated in the elections. In some places, especially in rural areas, the voting rate was 70 percent or more. However, the average voter turnout across the country was 41.8 percent, i.e., about 42 percent, due to relatively low voter turnout in urban areas,&#8221; the foreign ministry said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also said, &#8216;The Independent Election Commission has conducted the election in a very fair and orderly manner. Despite the BNP&#8217;s pre-poll violence and threats to disrupt the polls, polling day was peaceful and festive, except for isolated incidents in a handful of polling stations. International election observers and journalists, who actively covered the election from the ground, confirmed this in their initial reactions.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">The statement also said, &#8216;The members of the law and order forces dealt with incidents of violence with restraint and legal boundaries ahead of the elections. No person was arrested for political reasons. Those who hurled petrol bombs at people and vehicles, set fires, killed and injured people, and disrupted public life were arrested on specific charges to disrupt the elections. These measures were necessary to uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of all citizens.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Therefore, this joint statement is misleading, one-sided, and unacceptable,&#8221; the foreign ministry said in a statement.
