Houthi rebels fired two anti-ship missiles at commercial ships in the Red Sea late Tuesday night, the US military said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">According to the Times of Israel, the US Central Command said in a post on social media X that the attack took place on Tuesday around 9:30 p.m. local time in Yemen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Britain&#8217;s Maritime Trade Operations Authority initially reported the explosion near a cargo ship between the coasts of Eritrea and Yemen. The British maritime security firm said in a brief message that the vessel was undamaged and the crew is currently safe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">The US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported the same information, but the Houthis fired anti-ship ballistic missiles but did not cause any damage. Several ships in the area reported missiles hitting the surrounding water.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">The US Central Command wrote in the X Post that there have been 24 attacks on ships moving in the Red Sea since November 19. These illegal attacks put the lives of many sailors at risk. International trade is also being disrupted due to this attack.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">The UN Security Council is going to hold a meeting on Wednesday on maintaining international peace and security. French diplomats said the issue of Houthi attacks in the Red Sea will be resolved at the Security Council meeting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Houthi forces have been attacking ships in the Red Sea since November. They have so far carried out hundreds of drone and missile attacks targeting commercial ships passing through this route.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">The Houthis claim that they are carrying out this attack in support of the Palestinians in response to the Israeli attack on Gaza.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">The US formed a multinational naval task force last month to protect shipping in the Red Sea in the wake of Houthi attacks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Last Sunday (December 31), when Houthi rebels attacked a ship in Singapore, the US Navy counterattacked them. At least 10 Houthi fighters were killed. Along with that, three boats of the rebel group have sunk in the sea.
