International desk:<\/strong> Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi won the country’s presidential election on Monday by a large margin.<\/p>\n

Egypt’s national election authority said Sisi won 89.6 percent of the vote in his third term. Reuters news.<\/p>\n

Voting for the presidential election was held in Egypt from December 10 to 12. Many voters in the Arab world’s most populous country expressed indifference to the election.<\/p>\n

They told Reuters that they already knew the outcome would be like this. The country’s Election Commission and state-controlled media have launched many campaigns to increase voter participation.<\/p>\n

66.8 percent of voters voted in this election. 41 percent of voters voted in 2018.<\/p>\n

Some voters said the ongoing conflict in Gaza motivated them to vote for Sisi. For a long time, Sisi has developed his image as a ‘symbol of stability’ in this unstable region.<\/p>\n

Other Arab Gulf countries and Western allies have also been affected, as a result of which Sisi’s government has received regular financial support from the countries. Analysts see stability as the most important factor in a fragile economy and in conflict in neighboring countries.<\/p>\n

Although Sisi has three opponents in the election, none of them are very popular. The most popular contender among them withdrew his name in October. He claimed that officials and miscreants were attacking his supporters. The election authorities denied this claim.<\/p>\n

Many complain. Voters were taken to the polling stations by bus and given bags of food. Many claim that their employers pressured them to vote.<\/p>\n

The state media reported that offering money or food in exchange for votes is a criminal offense.<\/p>\n

In 2013, former General Sisi seized power by overthrowing the first democratically elected leader, Mohamed Morsi, under the banner of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood party.<\/p>\n

Since then, he has been accused of repressing dissidents. Sisi was officially elected president in 2014.<\/p>\n
