Dhaka Bureau:<\/strong> The army will work as a’striking force’ to maintain law and order in the country in the upcoming 12th National Parliament elections. President Md. Sahabuddin gave principled approval in this regard.<\/p>\n

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal went to meet the President at Bangabhaban on Sunday (December 17) around 11 a.m. EC Secretary, Md. Jahangir Alam.<\/p>\n

After the meeting, the EC secretary told reporters that the head of state had given a positive nod (about the deployment of the army). But when the army will be deployed will be decided, subject to discussion.<\/p>\n

He said that the president will take a decision soon after discussing it with the armed forces.<\/p>\n

He said that according to Article 120 of the Constitution, the Commission has requested the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to appoint the military forces to assist the civilian administration in the 12th National Assembly elections under ‘In Aid to Civil Power’. The president has assured that he will talk to the armed forces and announce the decision very soon. He agreed, in principle, to provide military forces.<\/p>\n

When asked when the army will be deployed, Jahangir Alam said that a separate letter will be sent after discussion with the Armed Forces Department. In light of that, the time, when, and how will be determined.
