This Sunday (December 10) morning, after the appeal hearing at the Election Commission (EC) building in the capital, Agargaon, the commission led by Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal announced Motaleb&#8217;s candidacy as valid. Abdul Motaleb&#8217;s lawyer confirmed the matter. Asif. Motaleb&#8217;s supporters celebrated by distributing sweets in the parliamentary area as the candidacy was returned.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">It is known that the nomination papers of the candidates for Chittagong-15 seats in the 12th parliamentary elections were scrutinized on December 4. On that day, the returning officer of this parliamentary constituency and Chittagong District Commissioner, Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman, canceled the nomination papers of Abdul Motaleb due to the complexity of the signatures of 1 percent of the voters in the case of independent candidates. After the cancellation, on December 5 (Tuesday), Motaleb appealed to the Election Commission to regain his candidacy. Today, Sunday, December 10, was the day of the appeal hearing. About 20 lawyers, led by Supreme Court senior lawyer Advocate Yusuf Hussain Humayun, participated in the hearing on behalf of Motaleb.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">In this regard, advocate Motaleb participated in the hearing. Asif said, during the appeal hearing, the lawyers, led by advocate Yusuf Hussain Humayun sir, presented the reason for the discrepancy in the signatures of 1 percent of the voters in the auditorium of the election building in the morning. The commission said that there is no obstacle for him to contest the elections with his preferred symbol.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Abdul Motaleb said my supporter Parimal Kanti, a resident of Kalauzhan, Lohagara upazila, was present on the day of scrutiny of nomination papers by the returning officer. He grew up in a completely rural environment, being an autorickshaw driver and a farmer. As a result, he could not understand the saintly language of the returning officer. Due to this, the returning officer felt that his signature was not correct for 1 percent of voters. Besides, my other supporter is Jasmin Akhter, a resident of the Charti Union of Satkania Upazila. He was not present at the returning officer&#8217;s office that day due to various threats. As a result, my nomination was cancelled.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">He further said that Parimal and Jasmin were present in person at the Election Commission office this morning and presented the necessary documents, including their voter ID cards, to the Commission. They commented to the commission that they have full support for me. As a result, the commission considered the matter and declared my nomination paper valid.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Khorshed Alam, a resident of Charti Union in Satkania, said that Motaleb Sahib&#8217;s candidacy has given hope to the people of the area, and sweets have been distributed in the area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Lohagara Upazila Awami League General Secretary Salah Uddin Hiru said Motaleb Bhai&#8217;s supporters were disappointed after his candidacy was cancelled. Now they are all set to work for him in the polls.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Independent candidate Abdul Motaleb said in his response, &#8220;I got justice in the Election Commission, and I express my gratitude to the Hon&#8217;ble Prime Minister and Bangabandhu&#8217;s daughter, Sheikh Hasina, for giving me the opportunity to run as an independent candidate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Motaleb also said, I hope for transparency and competitive elections with the participation of the people of Satkania-Lohagara. I am running for office to serve people. Allah honored me by returning my candidacy. With the last drop of my life, I want to take my last breath serving the people of Satkaniya and Lohagara.
