Al-Jazeera reported this information citing a Russian media and US officials.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, according to the US National Security Council, this meeting of William J. Burns is not in any way to discuss any settlement of the Ukraine war. Barnes met with Russia&#8217;s intelligence chief in Turkey on Monday (November 14), primarily to warn Russia against using nuclear weapons in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A spokesperson of the White House also confirmed this information. Citing officials of the National Security Council, the US news media New York Times said that there was no discussion on the resolution of the war in the meeting of Burns in Ankara.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A spokesman for the US government&#8217;s security agency said that Ukraine had been informed about the visit in advance. Recently, President Biden has emphasized that Ukraine will guide the way to end the war, and the United States will not say anything.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, there is a disagreement at the highest level of the US government on whether to press Ukraine for a diplomatic solution to the ongoing war with Russia. A closed-door meeting of top US military officials suggested Ukraine should sit at the negotiating table if recent gains in the war are to be maintained.<\/p>\n<p>The National Security Council said about Monday&#8217;s meeting that the meeting plans to raise the issue of the release of Americans detained in Russia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Kremlin spokesman Dmitry S. Peskov confirmed the meeting to Russian state news agency TASS. He said that the meeting was initiated by the United States. However, he did not agree to reveal the content of the discussion.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, when the New York Times contacted a CIA spokesperson, he also refused to comment. The agency has never officially announced any travel by the CIA chief, the spokesman said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Officials in Russia and Ukraine have expressed their optimism more publicly in recent weeks about possible peace talks. One such discussion started in Ankara. But it didn&#8217;t go ahead in the end.<\/p>\n<p>More than six months have passed since that incident. US officials also expect talks to begin soon. US and European leaders now aim to ensure that the war does not cross Ukraine&#8217;s territory in any way.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They are trying to prevent President Vladimir Putin from using strategic nuclear weapons or other weapons of mass destruction at all costs. However, Putin has consistently denied reports that Moscow is preparing to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Despite what senior US officials claim, Russian military leaders have recently discussed the possibility of using tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Biden administration is trying to negotiate a prisoner exchange with Russia for the return of WNBA star Britney Griner and spy Paul Whelan. In August 2021, US officials talked about finding a way for Putin and Biden to meet in Geneva.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Biden administration has offered to release Russian arms dealer Viktor Baut, who is imprisoned in the United States, in exchange for the release of two US citizens.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, CIA chief Barnes was sent to talk with Russian officials about Ukraine. Barnes visited Moscow in November 2021, before Putin ordered a full force invasion of Ukraine last February.
