The Crime Desk:<\/strong> On the second day of nomination papers, the nomination papers of 14 others were cancelled. Notable candidates whose nomination papers were canceled yesterday include Jatiya Party’s Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury, independent candidate MA Motaleb, AMM Minhajur Rahman, Farid Mahmud, Rekha Alam, Islami Front’s MA Matin, and others.<\/p>\n

In 16 constituencies of Chittagong, a total of 32 nomination papers were cancelled. Among them are 21 independent candidates and 11 party candidates. Incidentally, a total of 148 candidates submitted a total of 151 nomination papers in these 16 constituencies.<\/p>\n

It has been reported that the nomination papers of 32 candidates were canceled due to an average of one percent of the supporting votes of the independent candidates, loan default, bill default, an income tax certificate not being given, and the signature of the proposer-supporter.<\/p>\n

On the last day of selection, the divisional commissioner said Tofail Islam selected the nomination papers of candidates for the Chittagong-9 Kotwoali, Chittagong-10 Doublemooring, and Chittagong-11 (Bandar-Patenga) constituencies. Five nominations were canceled during selection.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman selected the candidates of Chittagong-7 Rangunia, Chittagong-12 Patia, Chittagong-14 (Chandnaish-Satkania section), Chittagong-15 (Lohagara-Satkania section), and Chittagong-16 Banshkhali constituencies.<\/p>\n

The nomination papers of 7 candidates in Chittagong-9 Kotwali constituencies were not canceled during the selection of nomination papers for 3 constituencies of the city. Out of 12 candidates in the Chittagong-10 double-mooring constituencies, 3 independent candidates and 1 party candidate’s nomination papers have been cancelled. The nomination papers of the four people who have been canceled are those of the former members of parliament in this constituency. Afcharul Amin’s son and independent candidate Faisal Amin, independent candidate Farid Mahmud, independent candidate Md. Osman Ghani, and BNF candidate Manjurul Islam<\/p>\n

In Chittagong-11 (Bandar-Patenga) Constituency, out of a total of nine candidates, the nomination papers of one independent candidate have been cancelled. Independent candidate Rekha Alam’s nomination papers were canceled due to an average voter turnout of one percent.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman canceled the nomination papers of five candidates while selecting the nomination papers for five constituencies. First in the morning, the selection of nomination papers for Chittagong-7 Rangunia constituency started. The candidate of the Awami League in this seat and the current member of parliament for this seat is the Minister of Information and Broadcasting. The nomination papers of six candidates, including Hasan Mahmud, were declared valid during selection.<\/p>\n

In Chittagong-12 Patia constituency, out of 10 candidates, 3 nominations, including 2 independents, have been cancelled. The canceled candidates are independent candidate Ilyach Miah, independent candidate Golam Kibria, and Bangladesh Islami Front’s MA Matin’s nomination papers. While independent candidates were disqualified due to an average of 1 percent support votes, MA Matin’s nomination was disqualified due to electricity bill arrears.<\/p>\n

In Chittagong-14 (Chandnaish-Satkania segment), no candidate’s nomination papers were canceled out of a total of 8 candidates.<\/p>\n

Chittagong-15 (Lohagara-Satkania division) seat among the total of 9 candidates, independent candidate MA Motaleb, Dr. The nomination papers of three people, including AMM Minhajur Rahman, have been cancelled. The returning officer said during the election that there was a discrepancy in the data of one percent of the voters in favor of both.<\/p>\n

The returning officer said that MA Motaleb gave the signed list of 8 supporters from Satkania and 2 supporters from Lohagara. Of these, Rokeya Begum and Parimal Nath did not sign, the field-level verifier told the officer. But when these two people were produced during the hearing yesterday, there was a discrepancy in the information of one of them.<\/p>\n

Out of 10 pro-Minhajur Rahman voters, 9 except 1 admitted their signatures during verification. Due to this, the nomination papers for both of them were cancelled. Meanwhile, MA Motaleb and Minhajur Rahman told the returning officer that their supporting voters have been threatened from house to house. One is under house arrest. For this reason, they refused. Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman asked them to appeal to the Election Commission.<\/p>\n

Besides, the nomination of National People’s Party candidate Fazlur Haque was canceled due to a lack of proper documents. As he did not have the signature of the candidate on the nomination form, Form-20, his nomination paper was rejected.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the nomination of Jatiya Party candidate Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury for Chittagong-16 (Banshkhali) constituency was canceled due to a default on loans. During the selection, the returning officer said that in the CIB report of Bangladesh Bank, he defaulted on loans from the bank against three institutions. Another candidate from this constituency, National Awami Party candidate Ashish Kumar Sheel, has also defaulted. He is a guarantor for one at AB Bank. On the other hand, due to not submitting the proper documents, the candidate of the Islamic Oikyazot of the same seat, Shaukat Hossain Chatgamy’s, nomination was cancelled.<\/p>\n

In this regard, Chittagong Deputy Commissioner and Election Returning Officer Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman said that in the last two days, the nomination papers of 16 candidates have been canceled due to various discrepancies, including loan default, bill default, and the fact that 1 percent of the voter’s eligibility information was mixed in the selection of nomination papers for 10 parliamentary constituencies. The nominations were canceled due to discrepancies in the list of electoral supporters of individual candidates. Even if it is canceled, candidates have the right to appeal.
