International Desk:<\/strong> The United Nations Security Council has passed a proposal for a temporary ceasefire in the besieged Gaza Strip in consideration of humanitarian aspects. The resolution also called for the immediate and unconditional release of the hostages. Twelve of the 15 members of the Security Council voted in favor of the resolution. None of the five permanent members of the council exercised veto power. At the same time, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Russia abstained, although no member country voted against it.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday (November 15) local time, Malta presented a resolution to the UN Security Council calling for a temporary cessation of hostilities in Gaza for humanitarian reasons. The resolution was passed after almost a month and a half of war between the Israeli forces and the armed Hamas. However, Israel has opposed it.<\/p>\n

After the war started on October 7, the Security Council sat for the fifth time on this crisis. The proposal raised in the previous meeting was not passed due to a US veto. The Palestinian resistance organization Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on October 7. Israel said that about 1,200 people were killed. Although in the beginning this number was 1,400 claimed by the country,<\/p>\n

In addition, Israel has been claiming that the Palestinian fighters have taken about 240 hostages. In response to the attack by Hamas, Israel launched a massive attack on Gaza on the same day. About 11,500 people have been killed in Gaza in the indiscriminate and incessant attacks. More than eight thousand of them are women and children.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
