Dhaka Bureau: The BNP is involved in the incident of setting fire to a bus carrying police officials during the BNP’s general meeting in the capital, Dhaka, on October 28. BNP was spreading confusion that the Awami League was involved after the bus carrying police officers was set on fire. However, this time the BNP’s conspiracy was leaked by the driver of that bus. In a viral video on social media on Sunday (October 29), the driver of the bus gave a detailed description of who set fire to the police bus. Since the day of the incident, BNP’s media cell has been spreading misleading information, blaming the police for the incident, to cover up the situation.
But the bus driver said the arsonists were different from law enforcement officers. He can be distinguished very clearly by the color of his vest. There were police officers in the bus I was driving. After they got off, I parked the car. After they got off my bus, a man wearing a black vest got on the bus. Then he poured gasoline and set it on fire. When asked about the color of the fireman’s clothes, he said, ‘He (the fireman) was wearing a black vest. The color of his clothing does not match the navy-blue or gray vests of the law enforcement agencies.’
The involvement of BNP cadres in incidents of day-long rampage targeting law enforcement personnel, including attacks on police officers, the burning of police boxes, and attacks on police hospitals, has been coming to the fore. From this, it is clear that the BNP may have played a role in setting fire to the bus carrying the police officers. Also, various visual evidences (videos, pictures) showed that BNP members were wearing ‘press’ level vests while inciting street violence. Basically, they have adopted this new strategy to obscure the fact that they are involved in such activities.
It is to be noted that there was a pre-announced rally of the BNP and the ruling Awami League on October 28 at Nayapaltan and the south gate of the National Mosque, Baitul Mokarram. BNP leaders and workers clashed with the police in Kakrail before the BNP convention began. Meanwhile, a member of the police lost his life in an attack by BNP activists.
