Md. Ayub Miyaji, Chandanish: Cyclone ‘Hamun’ has caused extensive damage in Chandanish. In addition to the loss of more than 10 lakh rupees in the power sector, trees and houses were destroyed in various unions of the upazila.

On the night of October 24, Cyclone “Hamun” uprooted and broke large trees on various roads in the upazila, stopping traffic on most of the roads. The entire Chandnaish was plunged into darkness as the trees fell on the power lines and the power lines were severed.

In the wake of Cyclone Hamun, Chandnaish, and Dohazari Municipalities, various areas of 8 Unions are widely feared by the storm. At that time, a large lantry tree fell on the house of Mansaf Ali Fakir, son of deceased Ali Akbar of Jatarkul area, and the house was shaken. On the other hand, the house of Abul Hashem of South Hashimpur Sonaycharikul, Abu Saudagar of Majid Market area, was blown away. On the other hand, a tree fell and broke in Jisu’s raw house. In the Phultala area of Dohazari municipality, a tree fell on the under-construction house of news worker Arzur Lantry, causing extensive damage. The house of Helal, son of Jamirjuri Nurul Alam, fell and broke a nearby tree, causing extensive damage. Meanwhile, five more houses in the area were destroyed.

Abu Sufian, DGM Engineer of Upazila Palli Vidyut, said that their power lines have suffered extensive damage. More than 35 poles have broken in different areas of the upazila. The wire breaks at 65 places, and three transformers are damaged. More than 500 meters were destroyed; 10 rotting arms and 10 incinerators were destroyed, causing a loss of 10 lakh rupees. Six poles have broken simultaneously in Bailtali. Meanwhile, the people of the rural electricity department are working day and night to activate the electricity lines in several areas, including Chandanish Sadar, by the night of October 25, he said. He said that it will take another week to restore power lines for 38,000 customers at full speed. On the other hand, Nayan Kumar Dash, Resident Engineer of Dohazari Electricity Department, said that the power lines under them for 18,500 customers were broken in more than 6 kilometers; 25 poles were broken. Already, 70% of the lines have been restored, and electricity has been activated. In the next 3–4 days, the power line will be fully operational, he said.

Rahat (4), Abdul Mannan (50) of Syedabad, Shafiul Islam (49) of Kanaimadari, Majjal Ahmad (75) of Pathandandi, Rina Prabha Devi (50) of Dohazari, and Mannan Saudagar (52) of Dakshin Hashimpur were injured by the falling tree branch. more injured. The injured were treated at Chandanish and Dohazari Health Complexes.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahmuda Begum said that the fire service workers are working throughout the night to remove the trees that fell on the road during the storm. Trees fell on houses in different areas. He said that no injuries or deaths were reported. UP chairmen have been asked to provide information about everything. He said that the higher authorities would be informed after determining the amount of damage. In preparation for the cyclone, a monitoring team was formed in the upazila on October 24, and a union-based tech officer was appointed. A stock of dry food is kept along with it.
