Dhaka Bureau: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going to Brussels, Belgium, on a three-day visit to participate in the first conference of the Global Gateway Forum at the invitation of European Commission President Ursula Vonder Lien.
The Prime Minister will leave for Brussels on a commercial Bangladesh-Bangladesh flight on Tuesday (October 24) morning and will arrive there in the evening, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to meet with some of the top leaders of the European Union of 27 countries while participating in the Global Gateway Forum meeting to be held on October 25 and 26.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs will accompany the Prime Minister. AK Abdul Momen, Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Private Industry and Investment Salman F. Rahman, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, and related senior officials
During the visit, a loan assistance agreement of 350 million euros for Bangladesh’s renewable energy sector may be signed between the Department of Economic Relations and the European Investment Bank on behalf of the Bangladesh government.
It should be noted that the EU announced the ‘Global Gateway’ initiative in December 2021 to strengthen infrastructure in the areas of smart, environmentally friendly, and safe digital technology, energy, transport, health, education, and research worldwide.
