According to the police, Bibi Kulsoom of the same ward got married to Shaheed Ulya, a visually impaired resident of Ward No. 8 of Narottapur Union of the upazila. Three daughters were born to them after 12 years of marriage. As the blind martyr was unemployed, his wife, Kulsoom, worked as a seamstress to support the family.
By working as a seamstress, she saved one and a half lakh rupees for the insurance company. In the hope of family happiness, the victim gave that money to repair the house of Shahid’s father. In 2018, when Kulsoom’s father tried to stop the quarrel between the victim and the accused, the accused picked up Kulsoom in front of the victim’s father-in-law and abused and beat her. Enraged, Kulsoom threw her blind husband, Shahid Ullah, into a pan of hot oil and fled to an unknown place with her parents. Later, the martyr died while undergoing treatment.
Noakhali Superintendent of Police (SP), Md. Shahidul Islam, said that after the incident, Kulsoom and his family members went into hiding. A case was filed in court for this incident. The court issued an arrest warrant awarding the death sentence to Bibi Kulsoom and life imprisonment to her mother, Lily Begum, in the absence of the accused.
