Pabna Correspondent: A day after the first consignment of uranium was officially handed over, the second consignment of uranium reached the Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna.
Pakshi Highway Police Station OC Ashish Kumar Sanal confirmed this information on Friday (October 6) morning.
OC Ashish Kumar said, through strict security, vehicles carrying uranium entered the nuclear power plant through the Natore-Kushtia-Pabna highway at 10:10 a.m. today.
The vehicles were welcomed by the working Bangladeshi and Russian workers when the second consignment of uranium reached the Ruppur project area from Dhaka via the Bangabandhu Bridge via Banpara in Natore and Dashuriya in Ishwardi in Pabna. There was a special security cordon of various law and order forces along with the army on the highway when vehicles carrying uranium were brought to the Rooppur nuclear power project.
Pabna-Natore-Kushtia highway is closed for heavy traffic from 5 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for safety reasons. Traffic returns to normal after uranium arrives.
Rooppur nuclear project director Shaukat Akbar said that the second consignment of uranium from Russia arrived in Dhaka on a special plane on Thursday afternoon. Like the first shipment, the imported nuclear fuel is taken to Rooppur by road with maximum security. Five more consignments will arrive in the country in phases. In the initial phase, electricity will be generated in two units with a capacity of 2400 MW continuously for a year, with a total of seven consignments of fuel.
The nuclear power plant at Rooppur has already been upgraded to a nuclear facility since the first shipment arrived. As an official recognition, Russia handed over the energy certificate to Bangladesh in a grand ceremony on Thursday. Dr. Shaukat Akbar said Rooppur is no longer a project. But it is now a nuclear facility. A nuclear fuel certificate was officially handed over to the Bangladesh government from Russia on Thursday afternoon. The installation of all types of equipment in the construction of the first unit has been completed. Russia is sending us all the goods and equipment now. Now the commissioning will start.
It is to be noted that after arriving in Dhaka from Russia on the afternoon of September 28, the first consignment of ‘fresh nuclear fuel’ or uranium of the first unit of the Rooppur nuclear power project reached Rooppur on Friday, September 29.
