Dhaka Bureau: Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Bangladesh is a tested friend of Russia. Equality and respect are the basis of this friendship.
He said these words while joining virtually in the official transfer ceremony of ‘Fresh Nuclear Fuel’ or Uranium, the fuel for nuclear power generation near Bangladesh, on Thursday (October 5) at 3 p.m.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi were also virtually involved in the uranium transfer ceremony.
The Russian President said that Russia will provide all kinds of technical cooperation and fuel for the entire duration of the project, not only in the construction of the power plant.
He also said that the Rooppur nuclear power project will play a role in meeting the needs of the growing economy of Bangladesh. 20 thousand Bangladeshis have been directly employed in this project. Besides, many other companies are working on this project. It is also contributing to employment. India has also contributed to the implementation of this project.
Vladimir Putin said that the Soviet Union was the first country to recognize Bangladesh after its independence. Last year, the golden jubilee of Bangabandhu’s visit to Moscow was celebrated.
He also said that this power plant will meet 10 percent of the country’s electricity demand. It will also reduce dependence on fossil fuels. As a result, the country’s environment will be protected.
Before this, the introduction of the project was presented by the nuclear scientist and project director, Dr. Md. Shaukat Akbar. A video was then shown on the production of nuclear fuel and the handover of the first batch at Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
