Dhaka Bureau: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that the main driving force of education is the teacher. Teaching is a great profession. A teacher has many responsibilities. It is not only the responsibility of the teacher to impart moral knowledge, but it is also the responsibility of the teacher to make a qualitative change in his behavior and to establish the foundation of moral and social values in order to make a student a complete human being.
He said these things in a message given today on the occasion of ‘World Teacher’s Day’ tomorrow.
The Prime Minister said, “I am happy to know that ‘World Teachers’ Day’ is being celebrated at the national level and in all educational institutions. I wish and congratulate all the teachers on the occasion of ‘World Teacher’s Day’. This year’s theme of the day is ‘Teachers for Desired Education: The Global Imperative to Address the Teacher Shortage’, which I think is very timely.”
The Prime Minister said that teachers are the key workers in society. A teacher imparts knowledge to the younger generation, shows them dreams, and sows seeds of faith in them. As a result, the new generation develops as well-educated, skilled, competent, and good citizens. If we look at civilizations, we find that teachers have been the inspiration behind building every civilization. Since 1995, UNESCO has declared October 5 as ‘World Teachers’ Day’ all over the world.
He said the greatest Bengali of all time, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation, realized this deep truth and took various steps to improve the quality of life of teachers. He nationalized 165,000 primary teacher jobs and 36,165 primary schools. In the first budget of Bangladesh, the father of the nation allocated the highest 21.16 percent in the history of the country to the education sector. He reconstructed all schools and colleges and constructed new school and college buildings. Madrasa Education Board was established considering moral education.
Sheikh Hasina said that the Awami League government has taken and implemented extensive developmental steps in the last 15 years by giving the highest priority to the education sector in light of the education philosophy of the father of the nation. The education rate has increased from 46.66 percent in 2007 to 76.8 percent at present. We have formulated an up-to-date national education policy. The pay grade of primary school teachers has increased. House rent and medical allowances for private secondary school teachers have increased. The amount of money for research by teachers in public universities has increased. Necessary training is being given for the professional development of teachers. We think quality education is not possible without improving the quality of life of teachers.
He said, “We want to build a developed and prosperous ‘Smart Bangladesh’ by 2041, for which we need a smart workforce. That is why we have formulated an up-to-date curriculum. All our secondary-level teachers are being trained to implement this curriculum. I believe that all our teachers will play a leading role in the implementation of this new curriculum. A skilled generation will be developed under the direct touch of teachers, who will give us the gift of a ‘Smart Bangladesh’.”
The Prime Minister wished the overall success of the program undertaken on the occasion of ‘World Teachers’ Day 2023′.
