City Reporter: The mobile court raided Khatunganj, the country’s largest consumer goods market. In the operation, 1700 kg of banned polythene were seized from two godowns in the Osmania Gully area, and a fine of Tk 60 thousand was imposed.
The district administration and environment department conducted the operation on Monday morning. Prateek Dutta was the executive magistrate in the raid.
Executive Magistrate Prateek Datta said, “In the Chaktai Khatunganj area, 1.7 tons (1700 kg) of banned polythene were seized from an unnamed godown of Osmania Gully and a godown of Rahman & Brothers.” Due to this, two companies have been fined 30 thousand to 60 thousand rupees. The estimated value of the seized polythene is Tk 3 lakh.
When asked about this, Acting Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Abdul Malek said that we are determined to build a polythene-free city. Such operations will continue.
