Dhaka Bureau: 89 percent of the work on the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport has been completed, said Air Vice Marshal M Mofidur Rahman, Babychak Chairman. He said this at a press conference organized at the third terminal on Monday (October 2).
Air Vice Marshal Mofidur Rahman said that the Prime Minister will inaugurate the soft opening on October 7. Systems and machinery have been installed; after the soft opening, it will take another year to complete the remaining work. How to transfer operations from Terminals 1 and 2 to Terminal 3 will continue.
He said it will be opened for passengers or the public at the end of next year. Due to this project, passengers will be able to enter and exit the airport using the Road Train Elevated Express. 1230 cars can be parked.
He also said that this project, worth about 22 thousand crore rupees, was started in 2019 with the funding of JICA. The area of the third terminal is 230 thousand square meters. This third terminal has the capacity to transport 16 billion passengers annually. 26 boardings will be opened for passenger service. At the third terminal, baggage will be automatically checked at four levels.
The chairman of Babychak said that the management work is being given to a foreign company to improve the quality of passenger service internationally.
