Dhaka Bureau: Election Commissioner Anichur Rahman said that the schedule of the 12th parliamentary elections will be announced in the first week of November. Besides, he said that voting will be held at the beginning of January. This information was given by EC Anichur in Gazipur on Tuesday (September 26).

The Election Commission, led by Kazi Habibul Awal, took charge in February last year. Then some local government elections were held. BNP boycotted all elections, claiming that there would not be fair polls under this Election Commission. The first session of the eleventh parliament began on January 30, 2019. In that case, the twelfth parliamentary election is scheduled to be held between November 2023 and January next year.

The EC has a constitutional obligation to complete the next parliamentary elections by January 29, 2024. But the BNP and their like-minded parties are adamant in their demand not to participate in the elections without the resignation of the government. On the other hand, the Awami League is also in a stubborn position to hold elections according to the constitution. As a result, there has been apprehension about whether the election will be held at the right time or not.

EC Anichur Rahman was informed about the schedule and the possible time of the election in such a situation.
