Dhaka Bureau: World Bank South Asia Vice President Martin Riser is coming to Dhaka today Saturday (November 12) on a three-day visit. At this time, he will be accompanied by the newly appointed Country Director for Bangladesh and Bhutan Abdolaye Sek.
In a press release sent from the organization’s Dhaka office, it was informed on Friday that Abdullahi Sek has been appointed as the new country director of the World Bank. He will join the Dhaka office as Country Director for Bangladesh and Bhutan on January 1 next year.
According to the notification of the Dhaka office, Riser will meet with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, along with senior officials of the government during his three-day visit. He will also introduce Sec. Sek will be appointed as the Country Director of the World Bank for Bangladesh and Bhutan on January 1, 2023. They will also visit a World Bank funded project.
The circular also said, Vice President Riser said, I am happy to visit Bangladesh. I will discuss important reforms with the Government of Bangladesh, which will help put Bangladesh on a sustainable and inclusive growth path and create opportunities for the people.
Bangladesh has an impressive record in many areas of development, including poverty reduction, climate change adaptation and disaster risk preparedness, and gender equality in school enrollment, new country director Sec said in the release. I look forward to working closely with the government and people of Bangladesh. Because the country is working towards achieving the status of an upper-middle income country by 2031.
