Dhaka Bureau: Today is the 52nd martyrdom anniversary of Bir Shrestha Noor Mohammad Sheikh. BGB, upazila administration, government Birshrest Noor Mohammad College, Upazila Freedom Fighters Sangsad, and various educational institutions will hold various programs on the occasion of Tuesday (September 5) at Noor Mohammad Memorial in Kashipur, Sharsha.
The program includes a guard of honor in honor of the hero, paying tributes at the memorial, doa-milad mahfil, and a discussion meeting for his soul. On this day in 1971, this hero was martyred in the frontal battle with the Pakistani invading forces in Gowalhati village, Jessore. He was buried in Kashipur village, Sharsha upazila, of Jessore.
In recognition of his contribution to the liberation war, he was given the title of ‘Bir Shrestha’. Noor Mohammad Sheikh was born on February 26, 1936, in Mahishkhola (now Noor Mohammadnagar) village of Narail Sadar Upazila. In his career, Noor Mohammad Sheikh joined the then East Pakistan Rifles (EPR) on March 14, 1959, which is now known as the Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB).
He was transferred to the Jessore sector on July 10, 1970, after serving at the Dinajpur border for a long time. He was later promoted to Lance Naik. In 1971, he took part in the liberation war in Sector 8, which comprises the Jessore region. On September 5, 1971, he was martyred in the face-off with the Pakistani invading forces in Gowalhati village, Jessore.
