Dhaka Bureau: A teacher at a branch campus of Vikarunnisa Noon School and College in the capital has been accused of sexually harassing a female student. It is alleged that the teacher sent indecent messages to the student several times during private lessons. The accused teacher’s name is Abu Sufian. He is an English teacher at the Vasundhara branch of Vikarunnisa. The victim student is also a student at that branch.

On August 23, the father of the student mentioned that his daughter was sexually harassed, and Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Md. Sabirul made a written complaint to Islam. On August 31, Assistant Commissioner Al Amin Halder was assigned the task of investigating the complaint by the Divisional Commissioner. In the written complaint, the student’s father stated that the teacher had sent my daughter indecent text messages (SMS) several times during the private lessons, which were very offensive and defamatory. Such behavior is not expected from a teacher. I want to remedy this incident. The accused teacher has been withdrawn from the class in this incident. An investigation committee has also been formed.

A teacher of the Bashundhara branch in Vikarunnisa said on condition of anonymity that teacher Abu Sufian teaches batch-based private classes at his home. Similar allegations were made against him earlier. But the school authorities avoided it. Attempts were made to contact the accused teacher, Abu Sufyan, to inquire about the complaint, but he did not respond. Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Md. Sabirul Islam said that the investigation report was supposed to be submitted on September 2, but it has not been submitted so far. I hope to get a report in two days.

When asked, Acting Principal of Vikarunnisa Noon School and College, Keya Roy Chowdhury, said that an investigation committee was formed after a complaint was made to the president of the institution’s management committee (Dhaka Divisional Commissioner). Meanwhile, the work of the investigation committee has also progressed a long way. Now, further action will be taken according to the investigation report.

Earlier in 2011, a case was filed against Parimal Jayadhar, a Bengali teacher at Vikarunnisa Noon School and College, who assaulted a student of the institution. In 2015, the court sentenced him to life imprisonment.
