Dhaka Bureau: Bangladesh, China, and Myanmar want to start trials and small-scale Rohingya repatriation by December this year. To this end, a meeting will be held in Nay Pyi Taw, the capital city of Myanmar, on Monday, September 4. The officials at the director general level of the foreign ministries of Bangladesh and Myanmar will participate in it.

A four-member delegation headed by the Director General of the Myanmar Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh has already arrived in Myanmar to attend the meeting. According to a source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there will be several meetings between Bangladesh and Myanmar this month to make the Rohingya repatriation pilot project a success. As part of this, the officials of the two countries are sitting in Naypyidaw today.

In a few days, a Myanmar delegation is expected to come to Cox’s Bazar to discuss repatriation with the Rohingyas. China is playing an important role in the negotiations with Bangladesh and Myanmar in this repatriation process. Earlier, a delegation of 17 members led by Aung Myew, the regional director of Maungdu of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, visited Bangladesh on March 15 and returned to Myanmar on March 22 after meeting with 429 Rohingyas and verifying the necessary information.
