Faridpur Correspondent: The capital has been completely isolated from 5 southern districts including Barisal due to BNP’s divisional mass meeting in Faridpur. Bus service from southern region to Dhaka route is completely stopped. Passenger buses from Barisal, Patuakhali, Jhalkathi, Barguna and Pirojpur are not plying on Dhaka route from Friday (November 11) 6 am.
As a result, the bus service of the capital along with the tourist center Kuakata was stopped. Due to this, long-distance bus services were stopped in Barisal for a total of four days in a span of one week. Passengers are in trouble as there is no prior announcement of bus stop on Dhaka route. Dhaka-bound passengers were seen returning disappointed after arriving at the Barisal Central Bus Terminal.
Gulam Mashrek Bablu, president of Barisal Bus Owners Group, confirmed the fact of stopping bus services on the Dhaka route and said that the bus owners and workers of Greater Faridpur have called for a 38-hour transport strike on Friday and Saturday. Buses on the Dhaka route from the southern region including Barisal have to cross the broken junction at Faridpur. Due to the transport strike, the transport owners and workers of Faridpur will not allow buses to ply on the highway of that district. Therefore, passenger buses from all the southern districts of the capital have been stopped.
Barisal-Dhaka route hilsa transport driver Md. Feroze said that the bus service with the capital will be closed on Friday and Saturday.
It is to be noted that BNP’s departmental mass meeting in Faridpur on Saturday. Due to this rally, all types of mechanical vehicles including buses have been closed on Friday and Saturday in Faridpur. Last Saturday (November 5) all types of mechanical transport including buses were stopped in Barisal for two days due to the divisional mass meeting in Barisal.
