Rohingya repatriation: Dhaka-Naypyidaw meeting tomorrow

Dhaka Bureau: Bangladesh wants to return some Rohingyas to Myanmar under the pilot project. It wants to complete this work by December this year. In this regard, there is agreement from Myanmar. Dhaka-Naypyidaw is going to hold a meeting at director general level in Myanmar for that purpose.

The meeting is going to be held in Myanmar on Monday, September 4. Diplomatic sources in Dhaka and Naypyidaw confirmed the matter. According to a diplomatic source in Dhaka, Myanmar is willing to repatriate the Rohingyas at any time through the mediation of China.

However, Dhaka wants to start repatriation after taking into account the past experience. According to a diplomatic source in Naypyidaw, the Director General of the Myanmar Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs went to Naypyidaw with a delegation on September 2. Mainul Kabir.

There will be a meeting at the director general level of the two countries to discuss the verification of Rohingyas, including the start of repatriation on September 4. Earlier, Foreign Secretary Masud bin Momen said in response to reporters’ questions that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has listed more than 3,000 Rohingyas for repatriation under the pilot project.

How many of them will be taken depends on Myanmar.
