Bashir Ahmed, Bandarban Correspondent: This year’s flood has caused a loss of 498 crores 63 lakhs 19 thousand 406 rupees in Bandarban. The damage may increase further. Bandarban District Commissioner (DC) Shah Mojahid Uddin gave this information during an exchange of views with journalists on the review of the recent flood situation in the hilly district of Bandarban district administration and ways to overcome it.
District Commissioner Shah Mojahid Uddin said that seven upazilas of Bandarban have been affected by this flood and the district administration had prepared 207 temporary shelters in the whole district soon after the flood started. And 30 thousand 220 people took shelter in the shelter. On August 6-10, 11 people were killed by landslides and floods in Bandarban. 56 people were injured and one person is still missing.
He also said that 10 thousand 660 houses, 89.2 kilometers of power lines, 92 culverts, 60 mosques, temples, churches, pagodas, 93 bridges, 157 educational institutions and many other structures, roads, reservoirs and many other things have been damaged. Shah Mojahid Uddin said, this year’s flood has given us new experience and we have started taking various measures to deal with floods in Bandarban in the future.
In the exchange meeting, Executive Magistrate Abdullah Al-Mamun, Rajeev Kumar Biswas, Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Directorate SM Shahneyaz, Local Government Engineering Directorate (LGED) Bandarban Civil Engineer Md. Ziaul Islam Majumdar, Executive Engineer of Power Distribution Division Bandarban Syed Amir Hossain Masum, working journalists of various print and electronic media and district administration and officials of various departments were present.
