Bagerhat Correspondent: The Sundarbans are being opened for foresters and visitors from tomorrow, Friday, September 1, after a three-month ban. Earlier, the forest department had banned the entry of foresters and tourists in the Sundarbans from June 1 to August 31 due to the breeding season of wild animals.
The Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of East Sundarban Division, Mohammad Belayet Hossain, confirmed this. DFO Belayet Hossain said that foresters and visitors are banned from entering the Sundarbans for three months every year for the breeding of wildlife. As the forest is undisturbed, wildlife and fish species can move freely and breed unhindered. As a result, the Sundarbans regained their life in these three months. Visitors and foresters will be allowed to enter the Sundarbans again after three months starting Friday (September 1).
However, foresters and visitors who want to enter the Sundarbans cannot take single-use plastics like plastic water bottles or packets of chips with them. Tourists, tour operators, and foresters will be informed while taking permission to enter the Sundarbans from the forest department.
The Sundarbans currently have 114 Royal Bengal Tigers, 375 species of wild animals, including two lakh deer, 334 species of plants, including Sundari, 165 species of algae, 13 species of orchids, and 300 species of birds. Inside the Sundarbans, there are 291 species of fish, including crocodiles, six species of dolphins, and 1874 square kilometers of water.
