Cox’s Bazar representative: Numerous jellyfish have floated on Cox’s Bazar beach. On Friday (November 11) morning, these jellyfish floated to the north of Kalatali Point on the beach and got stuck on the shore.

A team led by Bangladesh Marine Research Institute (BORI) director general marine scientist Syed Mahmud Belal Haider collected the samples of the dead jellyfish.

In the afternoon, the jellyfish were washed away again by the tide. However, the locals said that it can be seen again with the low tide.

Local fisherman Nurul Abshar said that jellyfish often get caught in fishermen’s nets and die. Dead jellyfish discarded by fishermen float to the beach.

According to the fishermen, nuinna (jellyfish as the locals call it) is of no use to us, rather many nuinna are itchy when touched. Being a soft species, the fish also dies quickly.

Meanwhile, marine scientist Syed Mahmud Belal Haider, Director General of Bangladesh Marine Research Institute, who collected jellyfish samples in the morning, said that the generation of jellyfish in Cox’s Bazar sea is high. But because the fish has no importance to the fishermen, they kill them. Dead fish float to the bottom. There is nothing to panic about floating jellyfish.

He also said that Lobonimuidis robustus or white nuinna in local language does not cause any kind of harm if it comes in contact with this jellyfish. Jellyfish are quite useful as food if processed. It is being researched.

Last August 3 and 4, a large number of jellyfish floated on the Cox’s Bazar beach. Marine scientists of BORI also collected samples and researched them.
