Dhaka Bureau: Prominent citizens of the country have protested harassment by filing a criminal case against Nobel Peace Prize winner Professor Muhammad Yunus in the Labor Court. They have called for the cessation of such activities. This information was revealed in a press release sent to the media on Sunday (August 27).
In the statement they said, recently Professor Dr. A criminal case has been filed in the Labor Court against Muhammad Yunus and some of his colleagues at Grameen Telecom for violating labor laws. His lawyers said that although the charges are civil in nature, the criminal case was filed by the government. The government’s role in disposing of this case with unusual speed is now becoming noticeable.
In the statement, they also said that previously, in the name of summoning account, investigation and interrogation. Yunus was harassed by various institutions of the government. In addition, there are various types of complaints against him from different levels of the government. In view of all these, we feel that there is reason to believe that the incident of filing a criminal case against him in the Labor Court is intentional. We are deeply concerned about this.
The statement said, Professor Dr. Yunus has established himself as a respected person in the world for working to improve the condition of the extremely poor and neglected people. He has brought a rare honor to Bangladesh by winning various medals and awards including the Nobel Peace Prize, the US Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal. Various harassing measures against him in the mix of legal and administrative action are damaging his career and sending a negative message to the world.
