Dhaka Bureau: British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cook went to the Election Commission to meet Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal. On Sunday (August 27), around 11 a.m., Sarah Cook went to EC. This is Cook’s first meeting with the CEC since taking charge at the end of April.
Two officials of the High Commission are present with Sarah Cook. According to CEC office sources, this is a courtesy meeting. Since there was no meeting with the commission after the appointment of the High Commissioner, Sarah Cook came.
However, since the 12th National Assembly elections are near, there may be discussions on election-related issues. Diplomats of various countries, including the European Union, Japan, and the United States, have met with the CEC ahead of the elections. They want to see free, fair, impartial, and participatory elections in Bangladesh.
