Dhaka Bureau: The 10th Bilateral Defense Dialogue between Bangladesh and the USA is going on in Dhaka. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the dialogue, which began on Wednesday (August 23), will continue until Thursday. Since 2012, defense dialogue between the two countries has started. Once in the US and once in Bangladesh, this is how the dialogue has been going. The ninth dialogue was held in the United States last year, so this is happening in Bangladesh.
Brigadier General Hussain Muhammad Masihur Rahman, Director General of the Department of Armed Forces, Operations, and Planning, is leading the delegation of Bangladesh in the defense dialogue. Brigadier General James Thomas John is leading the US delegation. The Bangladesh delegation includes officials from various agencies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Armed Forces, Border Guard Bangladesh, and Bangladesh Coast Guard. ISPR said in a press release that the dialogue aims to create an opportunity for broader discussions on military cooperation between the two countries.
Highlighting the multi-dimensionality of relations with the United States, the circular said, “Since independence, the basis of cooperation between Bangladesh and the United States has been strong. Our relationship is multi-dimensional, multi-faceted, and ever-evolving. ” The continued support of the United States to provide defense development and training assistance to the Bangladesh Armed Forces is evident.” ISPR has highlighted the fact that every year, many members of the Bangladesh Armed Forces receive training at various institutions in the United States. According to the notification, the dialogue will discuss defense and military cooperation, technology, defense equipment, disaster response, peacekeeping operations, etc. in the field of global and regional security and defense cooperation, training, inspection, joint exercises and deployment, workshops, etc. in the field of training.
The Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Department of Armed Forces, Lt. Gen. Waqar-uz-Zamane, paid a courtesy call on the heads of the delegations of both countries participating in the dialogue before sitting in the meeting.
