Chakaria (Cox’s Bazar) Representative: A case has been filed against Surajpur-Manikpur UP chairman Azimul Haque of Cox’s Bazar’s Chakaria upazila in connection with embezzlement of orphan’s money. Apart from the UP Chairman, Union Awami League President Rafiqul Islam Kajal and Madrasa Superintendent Ahsan Habib Parvez have been made defendants in the case. On November 2 Chakaria Upazila Judicial Magistrate Court. A person named Ayub filed the case.
According to the complaint, in 2005, Surajpur Islamic Orphanage and Orphanage was established in Surajpur-Manikpur Union of Chakaria Upazila with the funding of five local students. In 2014, the organization was registered by the Department of Social Services. of which No. (Registration No. Cox 437/14). Currently there are 90-100 students in the orphanage. Rafiqul Islam Kajal, Madasa Superintendent, Maulana Ahsan Habib Parvez, president of the management committee of the institution, have been embezzling lakhs of rupees through irregularities and corruption for the last 8 years by showing fake death certificates in the name of 65 students of the orphanage. Surajpur-Manikpur UP chairman has alleged that he helped these students with death certificates despite their parents. In this way they embezzled nearly half a crore of the company with each other’s connivance. Even though millions of rupees have been embezzled by silent irregularities and corruption, no one has noticed these issues. When the government allocated 16 lakh taka for the orphans of the current fiscal year 22-23, the matter became known among the local people. Later, the local residents marched and formed a human chain against those involved. Last August 29, 2021, a person named Nurul Quader filed a case against three people including the local chairman in Chakaria Upazila Senior Judicial Magistrate Court. Case No. 950/2021. The influential people, being the defendant, prevented the plaintiff from proceeding with the case by threatening him in various ways. Later, the case was dismissed due to the absence of the plaintiff Nurul Quader.
On October 30, another victim named Mohammad Ayub filed a complaint in the Chakaria Upazila Judicial Magistrate Court along with UP Chairman Azimul Haque, Orphanage Management Committee President Rafiqul Islam Kajal and Superintendent Ahsab Habib Parvez. whose number is 1836/22. The court fixed the date for hearing the case. On November 2, Upazila Senior Judicial Magistrate. Zahid Hossain took cognizance of the case. The court judge ordered the Chakaria upazila executive officer JP Dewan to conduct further investigation and submit a report by December 14.
Recently Chakaria Upazila Nirbahi Officer JP Dewan visited Surajpur Islamia Hefzkhana and Orphanage in view of the complaints of local residents to Chakaria Upazila Nirbahi Officer. During his inspection, the company was found to be fraudulent. Among the 86 students present during the investigation who were shown to be orphans, their parents also appeared and objected that these students are not orphans. But as the defendants were influential, the defendants got away with threatening the plaintiff in various ways.
Chairman of Surajpur-Manikpur Union Azimul Haque said that the case was done once again. It was later dismissed. A Mahal re-tried the case in the Chakaria Upazila Judicial Magistrate Court. He said that he will continue to fight through the law.
Chakaria Upazila Nirbahi Officer JP Dewan said that a case has been filed in the court regarding embezzlement of money of Surajpur Islamia Hefzkhana and Orphanage in Surajpur-Manikpur union. I got the case papers today. He said that the report will be submitted to the court after the investigation.
