Dhaka Bureau: The court has ordered the three-year imprisonment of Redwan Ahmed, former state minister for liberation war affairs, in the case of embezzlement of Tk 50 lakhs of the freedom fighter parliament.
On Monday (August 14), Dhaka Special Judge-2 Judge Md. Akhtaruzzaman gave this order. He was also ordered to pay a fine of 50 lakh taka in addition to imprisonment.
ACC lawyer Mir Ahmed Salam confirmed the matter. He said that the court acquitted Shah Alam Chowdhury, the then Secretary General of the Central Command Council of the Freedom Fighters Sangsad, as the charges were not proved. Out of 15 witnesses in the case, 10 testified in court at various times.
State Minister Redwan of the BNP government currently holds the post of General Secretary of the LDP, led by Oli Ahmad. Redwan Ahmad is absconding. The court has issued a warrant of arrest against him.
