After the meeting, Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim informed the journalists about this. He also said that issues related to migration including Rohingya and climate change were discussed seriously in the meeting.

The Prime Minister said, “The large number of forcibly displaced Rohingya refugees from Myanmar is a huge burden for Bangladesh and the number is increasing every day with the birth of new children.”

The leader of the EU delegation, Iba Johansson, said that the EU will continue to support Bangladesh on the Rohingya issue. The EU is currently hosting 4.5 million Ukrainian refugees.

The issue of Bangladeshi migrants risking their lives to cross the Mediterranean Sea was also discussed in the meeting. In this regard, the Prime Minister said, “Bangladesh is making all efforts to stop this migration.”

“EU leaders and legal migrants can ensure the welfare of both by creating mutually beneficial conditions,” the EU leader said.

At this time, the EU delegation wants to know how Bangladesh is dealing with the adverse effects of climate change. In response, the Prime Minister said, “Bangladesh has adopted various adaptation and mitigation programs with its own funding, so we are able to deal with any type of disaster.”

The Prime Minister expressed his displeasure, saying, “The rich countries – who are responsible for global warming, have not given their promised money to the countries most vulnerable to the harmful effects of climate change.” He also said, “The rich countries have not kept their promises.”

Leader of the EU delegation praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the comprehensive development of Bangladesh. Prime Minister’s Ambassador-at-Large Mohammad Ziauddin, Prime Minister’s Chief Secretary Dr. Ahmed Kaykaus and EU ambassador Charles Huteli were present at the time.
