Chittagong South District Correspondent: Due to waterlogging on Chandanish Road, the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar route is closed. Due to continuous heavy rains and water flowing down from the hills upstream in the Matamuhuri River, traffic has stopped in Lama in Bandarban, Chakria in Cox’s Bazar, and Pekua.
Traffic on that route has been closed since Tuesday morning (August 8). Apart from this, internal roads are submerged under several feet of water. Government and private offices and educational institutions have become waterlogged. People in the area are facing a severe shortage of food and clean water due to not being able to cook in this situation.
It is known that on Tuesday morning, Toitumbur was seen in the water on the road in the Chandnaish area. The Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar road is under water. Road traffic has already become unsafe. Due to this, the authorities have stopped traffic on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar road.
Meanwhile, Kakara, Surajpur-Manikpur, Laksharchar, Koyarbil, Baraitli, Harbang, Purba Bara Beola, BMchar, Konakhali, Dhemushia, Paschim Bara Beola, Saharbil, Chiringa, Fansiakhali, Dulahazara, Khutakhali, and Pekua Sadar, Rajakhali, Ujantia, and Chakaria of Chakaria upazila. Most of the municipality is currently under 8–10 feet of water. At least 550,000 people in more than three hundred villages in these areas have become waterlogged.
There is a shortage of food and clean water, from house to house. Rural communication systems are being disrupted due to landslides in these hilly areas. It may be noted that the Patenga Meteorological Office recorded 216.4 millimeters of rainfall in the previous 24 hours until 3 p.m. on Monday (August 7).
At this time, the Ambagan Meteorological Office recorded 208.4 millimeters of rainfall.
